While the vast majority of about 30,000 teen drivers in Connecticut are progressing safely under the state's graduated-license program, they may soon face greater restrictions. Full Story

Derby does not care about their kids in that town. The kids that drive to high school cut the buses off right in the parking lot. And I mean they pull right out in front, not caring that the bus is right there. we have come very very close to hitting plenty of cars at Derby High. We have called the police department numerous times to ask for assitance and either we are told no with no reason, and as recently as Friday we were told they can not come to the school because of the high volume of calls. All we need is someone there for about 10 mins. But they would rather wait for someone to get killed before they do anything. Cant say the bus drivers havent tried to get help out there before someone gets hurt. We see it everyday morning and afternoon how the kids drive. Even the school don't come out and watch. Pretty said considering all the teen deaths this year so far......

I see the issues around young people and driving but I have to say that adults are just as careless. Everytime I'm driving there is at least one person doing something that is illegal. Cops need to start ticketing people for these driving violations. People get away with these violations and they can cause serious accidents. Some people just don't care and that is why many people die everyday on the roads. Start giving out tickets for these violations!

I agree I seelawyers using there blackberrys and laptops, adult women putting on makeup, men reading maps, everyone talking on cells phones all while driving, let alone grown men racing. If everyone would follow the rules we all would be safer. There are many responsible kids driving, we only hear about the ones involved in accidents.

It is not only the young drivers. Two of several fatal accidents in the area involved 50 year old drivers.

As far as the kids, we the taxpayers pay for bus service for these kids in high school and those of driving age pretty much have a car and drive to school. There is no need for this. Make them take the bus and free up the maze in the school lots and area streets.

Let's get what we pay for as taxpayers and keep our kids sfae a little longer.

Also raise the driving age to 18.

As an owner of the High Ridge Driving School in Stamford, CT I am in strong agreement that we as a state need to take a closer look at the requirements for our teen drivers. When you compare Connecticut with the other states in New England we require the least amount of driver training! Connecticut's driving landscape is difficult and challenging and I believe if our teens are better trained they will be safer!

Ya know, when I was in high school, a driver's education course was offered through the school. In most cases, teens that took this course were required to read about and discuss accidents and fatalities that were in printed in the paper, along with actual driving with an instructor (I forget how many hours, 8 or 10), learning how to parallel park, and learning common road courtesy. For those who passed the course, their parents were given a 20% discount on their car insurance when the teen was added. I suppose I don't have to ask what happened to the drivers' education course. Budget cuts, right? What a shame.
