I live in one of carabetta's apartments. They come in my apartment any time they feel like it, do 6 "inspections" a yr. We are not aloud to open our Windows in the winter, if we do, even if just once we have to pay 200$ extra for 4 months. I'm a single mom with a special needs child, I can't work full time. My rent went from 540$ a month to 800$ in the last 5 yrs with barely any notice of a rent in crease. After the 1st yr they will not give you a new lease. They keep you on a month to month lease so they can raise your rent whenever they want or kick you out.1 yr they lost 3 of my checks to pay my rent and claim they didn't get them, so they try to charge me a late fee plus court fees. Each time I proved they cashed the check, they never even apologize. Those are just fractions of some of the issues . When I moved here they said it was subsidized apartments. I notice the wages on my recertifications were actually more then what I made, they said it didn't make a difference. So if went by income I should pay a lot less. My child gets ssi "663$" and I gross 300$ a month no sec 8, no state help. I can't even afford or buy anything , so to define them in 2 words "dirty theives". I'm sure they are paying a lot political people, they've gotten away with so much .

In 1995 federal housing officials reached a settlement with Carabetta in connection with allegations that the firm diverted some $8 million from 40 federally insured subsidized housing developments it owns in Massachusetts and Connecticut. Investigators at that time accused the firm of more than 800 violations of its regulations, according to archive reports by the Boston Globe. Under the $12 million settlement Carabetta reached with the government, the firm was allowed to use a tax-exempt federal loan, federal rent subsidies and rent hikes to pay off the penalties, the newspaper reported.
HUD fined the company was $4 million in 1993 in connection with the financial irregularities, the paper wrote. In an earlier report, the newspaper said that the Carabetta diverted the funds to its struggling parent corporation, Carabetta Enterprises Inc., which was in the midst of bankruptcy.
The company in the 1980s and 1990s went through a federal Chapter 11 bankruptcy, a move that scuttled a long-anticipated multi-million dollar luxury condominium project in Asbury Park, N.J., a project New Jersey and Asbury Park officials had hoped would help revitalize the waterfront area.
However, Carabetta's financial difficulties lead to the company walking away from the project halfway through its construction. After lengthy legal wranglings over it, the development rights were ultimately taken away from Carabetta and given to another management firm. And the story goes on....

In 2001 I was hired by Joe Sr. My job was to keep him informed on a weekly basis, via computer reports, the internal problems relating to the account receivables. After 6 months of reports, I was instructed to give verbal reports. There was a mountain of problems within that organization. Example of problems consisted of collecting Section 8 payments for a ten month period knowing that the tenant was deceased, illegal lock outs, multipal Section 8 payments received for same apartmeents rented under various names, destruction of tenant payments who were in the evection process, multi apartment inspections on tenents whom they wanted out of the lease, the list goes on and on. Joe Sr and Joe Jr were very nice to work for. Other relatives were insecure in their positions when outside managers came on board and they demonstrated their insecurity by being noncooperative with new supervisors/managers who were brought in from outside. I don't wish Joe Sr and Jr ill, a number of other family members conected with the company and some non family corporate officers should be looked at very carefully. There are a lot of skeletons in their closets. The FBI, IRS and a number of other agencies have a lot of work going forward. I would say that the majority of the properties are owned by many investors, and they should be very concerned with these investigations that are in play. There are so many companies within the Carabetta Enterprises which will keep an army of auditors and investigators busy for months, if not years.

I am writing to complain about what is happening in a Carabetta complex named "Newfield Towers" in Middletown, CT. First let me say that the Coordnator in this building seems to associate with all the low lifes in this builing...the felons who should not even be here. This used to be for Seniors but now they have started to bring young disabled people in here and it has gone completely to pots since. I am a resident here and have been for six years. I had never lived in stacked housing before and wish I never came here. I have also had a dog for 2 years and never received a complaint, nor has there been one about my dog. Now a resident on my floor (one of the felons on my floor) has put in a complaint about me for excessive noise, door slamming, and that my dog walks the hall all hours of the day and night. I received a warning letter from Caratta, then an eviction notice from an attorney. The person who complained
about me had many complaints against her, one where the police were involved, and she has gotten all kinds of chances. I get a complaint and I get an eviction notice..when none of it was true. The complainer spends a lot of time in the coordinators office, this person was hired with no experience and does not understand Confidentiality. Talk about fairness. I guess it is true..its "who" you know. I will be fighting this.

My Mother was a life long resident of Meriden Born on Horton Avenue. She grew up with Mr. Carabetta and both attended the old Meriden High School on Liberty Street. She lived her last years at the Queenie towers apartments about 300 feet from where her home of 30+ years had been and was quite happy with the place. All I can say is, Thank you Joe.

I recently got evicted although I was overpaying my rent.Carabetta billed me $200 per pickup truck saying there was garbage left. Eight trucks to the dump at $200 is $1600. Even though there is a 35 foot dumpster 20 feet from my front door. Hmmm, they added a person to my lease, later saying in court it was a clarical error. Section 8 makes up rules as they go without showing you the statutes. How could you pay no rent on section 8 then they just start increasing rent without explination, or no income. They say getting a cash advance from my credit card is taxable income. Lawyers and court officials tell me it is not right, but will not get involved.

Yes!! Fight it with all your power, get signed letters from your other neighbors that know you for those 6 years. Bring all the proof you can!
I wish you the best of luck.
It seems that everywhere, people like the low lives cause they get checks from the government and they can cheat with them.
I know a person, that cheats their way out of every check. Receives all kinds of moneys and works under the table. they get $2,000 worth of the government a month, plus section 8, plus works, all together $4000.00 a month and never gotten caught. I dont want to even be near. I am a veteran and I cant find decent housing nor DAV to pay me what I am owed. Everything is turning to public housing with thugs and management likes them cause they can raise the rents and charge the state extra. SMH.
Fight it all the way! Be Blessed and Good Luck!

Meriden Ct is a joke for starters. It is filled with immigrants from every little mexico village. I bet you, there is not a single mexican left in Mexico because they are all right here in little Meriden. They should rename it, Mexiden. Anyway, carabetta lied on their website and said they have central air. We are not allowed to have A.C units in the window. And the maintenance workers just walk right into your apartment while you're masturbating. Isn't that nice? I should have them lick my arse and work the dildo for me since my arms are so tired from trying to hammer the nails into the cemented walls.
