<quoted text>QUOTE who="usasince1680" <quoted text>
I agree and am compelled to add that the problem with the poor today is
"handouts" - both public and private.
I grew up poor. My parents were too proud to accept any public assistance.
Sometimes we had nothing to eat but potatoes and oatmeal. We bought
day-old bread and picked left-over vegetables from the fields after
the harvest.
We made cardboard cutouts to fill the holes in our shoes. We brought out the
kettles when it rained through the roof and every year my Christmas gift was a
pair of warm pajamas that would have to last all year. No one gave us anything,
we did not ask for anything and we appreciated everything we had. And this
was the 50's - not during the recession.
I learned very early on that this was not the life for me and, because
my parents
were poor, it was (and is) extremely easy to get scholarships and
grants for college.
I did not marry until after college and waited until we were
financially secure before starting a family. Financial security was
and is very important to me.
Today's poor are provided with free food, new clothes, new shoes and
toys at Christmas. What incentive do they have to escape their
environment?
I guess my husband and I are considered "wealthy" and we happily share that
wealth but we never give to an organization that provides handouts to the poor
(other than homeless shelters). To do so, in my opinion, is to
encourage laziness
and dependency. People have got to stop feeling sorry for the poor!
*And then nutxucker this is my comment. ROTFLMAO. Liberals are so stupid:
*AND YET USAsincepoorsville starved but she had insurance. ROTFLMAO.

Are you referring to Joseph Callahan?

FAIRFIELD -- From the minute police entered Joseph C. Callahan's Greenfield Hill home, he freely discussed the array of bomb-making chemicals he collected in his house.

When they asked about some large containers in his garage, which contained about 100 pounds of a substance Callahan readily identified as ammonium nitrate, he couldn't have been more helpful.

"That's the chemical used in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing," police said he explained to them.

Then he pointed to vats that he said contained the same kind of chemicals used in the Oklahoma City bombing.

Gunner fits the profile, but to my knowledge he hasn't been around since Obama beat Rmoney.

President Bush will leave office as one of the most unpopular departing presidents in history, according to a new CBS News/New York Times poll showing Mr. Bush's final approval rating at 22 percent.
Seventy-three percent say they disapprove of the way Mr. Bush has handled his job as president over the last eight years.
Mr. Bush's final approval rating is the lowest final rating for an outgoing president since Gallup began asking about presidential approval more than 70 years ago.

Sorry, Lily, your "debunked" knee jerk reaction was proven "bunked" when I posted the government website and the number was there. Using one of the letters corresponding to each number, it would spell out the message you hoped was debunked.

Of course, you can choose one of the other two letters to match each number, but the odds of just one of the three letters matching each number to spell out that particular phrase still has to be astronomical.

Would you like to die that way, Lily? No matter what your mental condition? You don't think Terri suffered in spite of her mental state literally being starved to death?
It was nothing short of barbaric and the entire nation had to watch it. I can't even imagine being one of her family members who begged to take care of her and were helpless to end her suffering.
Would you be able to watch a loved one starve to death even if you didn't think they'd want to live in their present condition?
Carol, with all due respect, there was no one home. The autopsy showed her brain had liquified. There was no function. She had been dead a long time with only the machines keeping the body going.

Lily, you'd be a liar if you said you'd watch a wounded animal starve to death even if they had a head injury.
But we know liberals have such little regard for human life, it's understandable your stance on how Terri was sentenced to die.
Out of sight, out of mind. That's all that matters.
We are more humane to animals; they shoot horses don't they?
My cat had diabetes; I had him put to sleep. It's the right thing to do. My nephew kept his diabetic cat alive with insulin, then she went blind and was falling down and walking into walls, they had to keep her in a closet to be safe to eat, this went on for years. Why? I think it's absurd. Give them the shot and let them go. Keeping that brain dead woman alive for 14 years was insane; it was because of the parents religious fanaticism and then the Governor Bush got involved, and the President got involved. How absolutely ridiculous.

The Terri Schiavo case ruined the careers of many Repugnants.

Ask Bill Frist.

It was a case of you supporting the Gov't over individual family rights.

You supported the Gov't over her husband.

And yet, you now clainm to be for Gov't keeping their nose out of people's affairs.

Square the circle or admit you were wrong in supporting Gov't overreach in the Terri Schiavo case.

And yes, they were wrong, as proven by court cases in FL and at the Federal level.

We don't care about people, you say. Yet we're the ones who want all Americans to have health insurance, while your side is on record as saying 'let them die'.(Repugnant debates of 2012)
