The Birth of the Tea Party Movement

The Tea Party Movement
Its Birth, Its History, and Its Future
Revised July 30, 2010
Protest Rally
The Tea Party Movement

There are many who would love to take credit for the birth of the Tea Party Movement, but the actual credit for the movement is still under debate. One version dates back to 2007 on the anniversary of the Boston Tea Party when Ron Paul’s presidential campaign raised over 6 million dollars in one day and as a result, the Tea Party was born. Another version has the credit for the modern movement going to a user on tickerfourm.org that goes by the name Gmak. Tom Martin of the American Preppers Network did his homework of sifting through all the blogs and forums on the internet and came to the conclusion that Gmak posted an article on January 19th 2009 with the title “Mail a Teabag to Congress and Senate”. On January 20th 2009, Karl Denninger with the Market Ticker posted an article entitled “TEA PARTY February 1st?” This is the post that went viral in which hundreds of emails were sent out and countless blogs and forums were referencing the February 1st Tea Party. From those emails, it’s really hard to say how many subsequent emails were forwarded, but it is safe to say that it was well into the tens of thousands if not more. I remember receiving one and forwarding many myself. There are also other posts that pre-date the January 19th post, but the article posted by Karl Denninger is the one that went viral. Whether it was Ron Paul or Gmak, the actual credit for the idea of the Tea Party goes all the way back to the “Sons of Liberty” in 1773. The symbolism of that historical day is what has translated today into the birth of the modern Tea Party Movement.

You right whiners are confused.
Those who support the President do not worship Obama. If you look, we spend our time here correcting your lies.
Where the problem lies is that you freakin hate Obama so much that just regular support seems like worship to you dipsticks.
Why do you people hate Obama so much? Interesting question. Why it is that the election of this President spurred the birth of the Obama hating Tea Party. After just 3 weeks in office no less. Not while Bush was doubling the debt & driving this country into the ground. Nooooooooo. But after Obama was elected.
So, do you think that if MvcCain would have won in 2000, would we see the Tea Party formed?
Be honest with that answer. We all know the answer.

Charts: What if Obama spent like Reagan?

In 10 of the past 12 quarters, total government spending and investment has fallen, dragging down the Obama economy. That's in large part because state and local cutbacks have been so severe, but it's also because federal spending and investment has, on the whole, been falling since 2010.

This isn't an unusual analysis. You can see the numbers for yourself if you head to the Bureau of Economic Analysis's GDP data and scroll through column 21 of table 1.1.2. It's simply a fact that real government spending fell in three of President Obama's first four years.

That made me curious: How does government spending and investment during Obama's first term compare to Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush's first terms? The answer is poorly. Whereas total government spending dropped in 10 out of the 16 quarters that comprised Obama's first term, it rose in 13 out of Reagan's first 16 quarters, and 13 out of Bush's first 16 quarters.

Or, to put it differently, over Obama's first term, falling government spending and investment snipped, on average,.11 percentage points of GDP off of (annualized) quarterly growth. During Reagan's first term, it added .68 percentage points, and during Bush's first term, it added .52 percentage points.

Here's A Tally Of Which House Republicans Are Ready To Fund The Government, No Strings Attached

In the hours since the government shut down, House Republicans have slowly but steadily been coming forward to say they're ready to pass a bill to fund the government with no strings attached.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the number of those Republicans hit 17 -- the magic number. If all 200 Democrats stick together and team up with those Republicans, they have the votes to pass a clean funding bill. Of course, House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) would have to be willing to put that bill on the floor in the first place. But if he did, the votes appear to be there for passage, at which point the bill would sail through the Senate and be signed by President Barack Obama, ending the shutdown.

Here's who those House Republicans are, and why they say they're done with trying to force through provisions to delay or defund Obamacare in order to keep the government running. We'll update the list when, or if, more come in.

You were warned!!!!

Lexington, Kentucky (CNN)-- Obamacare is expected to increase patient demand for medical services. Combine that with a worsening shortage of doctors, and next year you may have to wait a little longer to get a doctor's appointment. And the crowded emergency room may become even more so.

There are approximately 48 million uninsured people in the United States. When the mandatory insurance rules of Obamacare kick in next year, and a couple dozen states expand who is eligible for Medicaid, you can bet more people are going to want to use their health benefits.

In fact, so many people were anxious to get access to health insurance -- many for the first time -- when the insurance marketplaces opened Tuesday, more than a dozen of the websites experienced technical glitches.

Dr. Ryan A. Stanton is worried that this coming flood of newly insured patients may crash the U.S. health care system as well. Stanton works at the emergency room at the busy Georgetown Community Hospital right outside of Lexington, Kentucky.

While he sees trauma cases often, a good number of the patients he sees aren't actually emergencies. They're the uninsured who can't afford to pay for a regular doctor's visit -- so they use the emergency room instead.

"We now see people without health insurance coming in for their regular checkup here," Stanton said. "We can't turn anyone away like a doctor's office could.... I worry though with (Obamacare) this will significantly increase patient volume."

The Medicaid welfare program expansion would be paid for by the federal government for a temporary period of time, after which the state would be 100 percent responsible for covering 100 percent of the expansion, right?
So, that money was going to be lost, anyway.

WWII Veterans Group: Park Service 'Bent Over Backwards' For Us

Jeff Miller, the co-founder of the Honor Flight Network, applauded the National Park Service on Wednesday for accomodating veterans hoping to visit the World War II Memorial, which had been closed as a result of the government shutdown.

“The Park Service they have been so compassionate, they have done everything they could,” Miller said, as quoted by the Washington Post. He added that the service “bent over backwards” to ensure that veterans were not dealt any additional inconveniences.

On Tuesday, veterans affiliated with the Mississippi Gulf Coast Honor Flight removed barriers at the Washington, D.C. memorial with the assistance of serveral congressmen. More veterans groups descended upon the memorial on Wednesday before the National Park Service announced that the veterans would be granted access to the open-air site.

Tea party lawmakers like Reps. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) and Louie Gohmert (R-TX) joined the veterans at the memorial on Wednesday, something that Miller suggested was unnecessary.

“We don’t need representatives, senators anybody here,” Miller told the Post. "We will be allowed to move the gate if there’s no one here and our veterans [can] go in.”

Republicans have tried to score political points off the ordeal. Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) said Tuesday that the government had deployed "goons" to deny veterans access, while Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) issued a statement Wednesday blaming the Obama administration for the closure.

http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/wwii-ve...

and we all know Obama personally made sure the Park Service got it right.
