Tough Love All Around for the GOP
If you’re out of practice at applying your ideas to real life, you’re message will hold little weight in the eyes of others. This is something for the GOP to remember if they aim to repair the divorce they’ve had with the working class. As reflected by last week’s exit polls, it’s going to require more than empathy, theory, or dressing up the party line, much to the talking heads’ dismay. http://www.theamericanconservative.com/tough-... |

By Borja Gonzalez and Andrei Khalip MADRID/LISBON, Nov 14 (Reuters)- Police and protesters clashed in Spain and Italy on Wednesday as millions of workers went on strike across Europe to protest against spending cuts they say have made the economic crisis worse. Hundreds of flights were cancelled, car factories and ports were at a standstill and trains barely ran in Spain and Portugal where unions held their first coordinated general strike. In Spain, 81 people were arrested after scuffles at picket lines and damage to storefronts. Riot police in Madrid fired rubber bullets at protesters. In central Rome, students stoned police in a protest over money-saving plans for the school system. A few dozen protesters, hurling bottles and large firecrackers, clashed with riot police, who fired tear gas and dragged away at least one bleeding protester into a police van, a Reuters witness said. International rail services were disrupted by strikes in Belgium and workers in Greece, Italy and France demonstrated as part of a "European Day of Action and Solidarity". It was the biggest Europe-wide challenge by organised labour to austerity policies that have aggravated recessions and mass unemployment in nearly three years since the start of the euro zone's debt crisis. But it seemed unlikely to force hard-pressed governments to change their cost-cutting strategies. They want JOBS, dummies, wake up before Obama puts us in the same place. |

Judged: 1 1 1 State Senator Ted Lieu (D-Redondo Beach) says he wants to put a constitutional amendment before California voters to hike the vehicle license fees." Normally I'd say this doesn't have a snowball's chance, but California liberals did just vote to raise the state's sales tax. |

Judged: 1 1 1 I really DO forgive liberals. I really DO feel they've trespassed against me in helping to destroy this country that I, too, share. The poster acted like trespass was a word I invented or something. trespass - a violation of moral or social ethics: an unwarranted infringement. |

Are you talking about the Norfolk Plant? I bought two F-150's built there. Best trucks I ever owned. Bought a Kansas City built F-150 later. Piece of crap. I don't buy F-150's anymore. Was sad to see the Norfolk plant close. |

Judged: 1 1 1 This is what Obama begged for, after he played a major role in creating it: The Government-Created Subprime Mortgage Meltdown by Thomas J. DiLorenzo The thousands of mortgage defaults and foreclosures in the "subprime" housing market (i.e., mortgage holders with poor credit ratings) is the direct result of thirty years of government policy that has forced banks to make bad loans to un-creditworthy borrowers. The policy in question is the 1977 Community Reinvestment Act (CRA), which compels banks to make loans to low-income borrowers and in what the supporters of the Act call "communities of color" that they might not otherwise make based on purely economic criteria. The original lobbyists for the CRA were the hardcore leftists who supported the Carter administration and were often rewarded for their support with government grants and programs like the CRA that they benefited from. These included various "neighborhood organizations," as they like to call themselves, such as "ACORN" (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now). These organizations claim that over $1 trillion in CRA loans have been made, although no one seems to know the magnitude with much certainty. A U.S. Senate Banking Committee staffer told me about ten years ago that at least $100 billion in such loans had been made in the first twenty years of the Act. So-called "community groups" like ACORN benefit themselves from the CRA through a process that sounds like legalized extortion. The CRA is enforced by four federal government bureaucracies: the Fed, the Comptroller of the Currency, the Office of Thrift Supervision, and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. The law is set up so that any bank merger, branch expansion, or new branch creation can be postponed or prohibited by any of these four bureaucracies if a CRA "protest" is issued by a "community group." This can cost banks great sums of money, and the "community groups" understand this perfectly well. It is their leverage. They use this leverage to get the banks to give them millions of dollars as well as promising to make a certain amount of bad loans in their communities. |

Judged: 1 1 1 Been an O'Reilly fan as far back as Clinton's second term, more than 12 years now. O'Reilly's been pretty rational and even optimistic about the election actually. He reminded conservatives this is an opportunity to remain the loyal opposition. That's me all over - the loyal opposition. He also offered hope that conservatism and traditional values will return with the right messenger in 2016. If we survive. |
