allow me to share some enlightening data on who pays what income tax in the United States. We have a progressive (or regressive if you choose to look it the tax code correctly) in 2009, the latest available figures on income tax collection:
The top 1%(1.4 million) paid 40.42% on income of $2.8 trillion.
The top 2.5%( 5.65 million) paid 20.2%
The top 5%( 7 million) paid 60%
The top 10% paid 71.2% of all income taxes on income of $4.227 trillion.
Collected taxes :$794 billion
The bottom 50% of American taxpayers paid only 7.89 % of all Federal taxes collected !!
the top 1% owns 35% of the wealth in the country...boo hoo

from 1989 to 2010, the worth of the 1...that's 1% went up 4.4% while the bottom 50% dropped 2%

"as for barack we shall see", did you sleep thru the last 4 years? Are you rip van winkle?

BO's idea of a business is someone at the top working their ass off for nothing and giving their employees and the treasury all the profit.

Well, it doesn't work that way and it damn sure doesn't in the companies ran by his rich and ultra rich supporters.

Looks like there's a do-able plan on the table to put the brakes on this train before it goes over the cliff.
The Republicans have suggested to cap income tax deductables. Right now, the figure is at $50,000 but it could go lower. It appeals to Democrats and would bring in quite a bit of revenue mainly from the wealthy. The lower the cap, the more revenue.
Of course, budget cuts will have to be made as well eventually.
Houston, we [republicans] have a problem, if you register i'll tell you about it.

My money's on Christie.
Well, again, the numbers in the exit polls representing the people who overwhelmingly voted for Obama say Romney was actually right.

But he's allowed to vent a little, isn't he?

The Republicans know they have to reach out and get the right message out to those people too - with rhetoric that's toned down a bit and in a way that's more inclusive.

It's like Rubio said, you can't talk about the right message to Hispanics if they think you're going to deport grandma.

Oddly enough, hasn't Obama done a fair bit of deporting himself?

Texas actually has one of the best economies in the nation. And some would say the most fair system for immigration. They allow children of illegal immigrants to attend college with the intent they will give back to society when they graduate.

Companies are also moving their businesses to Texas in droves.

Please indulge me. But since it seems we're winding down a bit, I felt compelled to post this for some reason.

To everything there is a season,
a time for every purpose under the sun.
A time to be born and a time to die;
a time to plant and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
a time to kill and a time to heal ...
a time to weep and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn and a time to dance ...
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing;
a time to lose and a time to seek;
a time to rend and a time to sew;
a time to keep silent and a time to speak;
a time to love and a time to hate;
a time for war and a time for peace.

You know, that isn't the insult you seemingly intended. Carol is not 'full of shit'. She expresses opinions which radically differ from your own, granted, but they don't reek of offal anymore than ours do. They differ. They're not apocalyptically stupid, simply because they don't align with yours in a nice neat form.

Hostess is an example of Rmoney style economics. THe Hedge Fund managers rewarded themselves with millions in pay, while th workers were asked to take cut after cut after cut.
No argument. I never said the terms under which Hostess folded were fair. What I said was, the union has become a creature. Not that it always was.
Nuculur option wrote:
<quoted text>At some point, people will refuse to be pushed around by rich fools. Expect to see more of that in the next few years.
hard times have always been the best organizer for unions.
People will only 'refuse to be pushed around by rich fools' until they are literally starving, and watching their children literally starve. Not talking about the lack of the latest video game, or the latest version of Tickle Me Elmo - starving. No food.
Until THAT day,(and yes, we'll get there) we will be 'pushed around', denied, ridiculed, and divided one against the other. We already are.
Nuculur option wrote:
<quoted text>Expect WalMart to have unions in the next few years.
It's the new civil rights movement.
To compare unions to greedy Corporate interests is ignorant, and that's being kind.
Gee, Nuc, I sure wish that were true. I was raised by two different 'dads', one my father, and one my mother's 2nd husband, and their view of unions was radically different. My father saw them as a scourge (he sold steel pipe and tube to various oil companies for a living) and the other saw them as a tool (he was one of only three County Commissioners, of the 77 counties in the State we lived in, NOT to be indicted for malfeasance of public funds in 1981.) Neither harbored any illusions that the Unions were working for the working man, even 30 years ago.
