I hope your cough goes away sooner. I here you. Just been taking it for two months. I too have this stupid cough.

I also developed a chronic cough about four years ago as result of taking lisinopril. When it was brought to my attention that this med cause coughing, about ten to fifteen family members were suffering from the same thing. I brought it to my doctor's attention, they don't want to deal with it. All they do is write and don't check. I was given another BP med and it did the same thing. I question the pharamicist and he said it did not cause a cough. I had already researched and it did. I told my doctor, she said no. I challenged her; she got her IPad checked it and found I was right. She apologized

My first BP med was Altace and I also got a violent cough but my doctor changed the medicine right away to Norvasc. Cough went away and my BP is in check. Pithy Opiner wrote: I just got off my little blue BP pill (ends in 'pril') because of 4 months of coughing. My doc told me today I fell into the 5% that this would be a side effect. Expect to have the cough for about 1-3 more weeks, he said. He prescribed another BP pill. I may go and pick it up and then, again, I may not. What if I don't really need it. I know it would be best if I just lost 40 lbs. Maybe I'll do that, instead. Meanwhile, I'll check my BP daily at Walgreens for a quarter. If it starts to go up I'll run to the Kaiser Pharmacy to get the newly prescribed pill.

I have only been taking Lisinopril for about 2 months but yesterday was my last dose, I refuse to take it again. I noticed a cough shortly after I started taking it, but it was more like a clearing of the throat every now and then. Last night was the final straw. I sleep for an hour and a half/two hours, then I'm awake coughing. Last night went to bed at 9 woke up at 11:08 coughing, finally got back to sleep, woke again at 1:36 coughing, again got to sleep woke yet again at 3:12 yes you guessed it coughing. Tossed and turned and at 4:20 I'm awake again coughing. Because it's so close to the time I usually wake up (5:30) I'm afraid I'll oversleep so the sleep I got was not good, and when it was finally time to get up It was hard because I wasn't rested. It takes me longer to get motivated to leave the house because I just want to get back into bed and try to get the sleep that a night of coughing robbed me of. When I get to work I am soooo thinking about sleep and I'm not focused anymore. I decided to stop taking the drug before I read this page, but it reinforces my decision. I reminds me of what my first mind told me I should do when I was first told I had hypertension. My first mind said to hold off on the meds and loose the weight I know I should lose, stop stressing on the things I can't control, and stop smoking. Thank you everyone for helping me see I was not crazy. For those of you new reading, if you didn't have the cough before the drug, but "mysteriously" you have it after taking the drug. It's the DRUG. Thanks again everyone.

I developed this cough about six months ago, it started every day around 4pm. Then it started to bother me at night. The cough is so severe that it caused very bad sore throat and hoarseness. WAs treated as asthma to no avail. I have seen a ENT an was told acid reflux and given Dexilant (still didn't help). Blood pressure was all over the place so Dr. added Lisinopril to my regular amlodipine BP med. Coughing got even worst, so was discontinued by Dr. in about 1 1/2 weeks. Sent to have upper GI done, had upper hernia(small) and non erosive gastritis (biopsied, no results yet. Still coughing, even tried raising head of bed, and changing foods I eat removing caffeine, fried and acidic foods. I am totally Miserable, sleeping very little at night maybe 3 hours. switched from black to stomach (helps a little) waiting to see if biops show anything.
