There are 6 comments on the www.connpost.com story from Apr 30, 2009, titled Swine flu unlikely in 2nd Stratford case. In it, www.connpost.com reports that:

A sample from a Stratford teenager who tested positive for influenza was forwarded Wednesday to the state Department of Public Health for more testing, but officials are downplaying the likelihood that it is the dangerous swine flu strain of the virus.

The teen, believed to be a 15-year-old from Wooster Middle School in Stratford, went to Milford Hospital for treatment, officials said.

The source of his illness has not been determined, but officials said he had not recently traveled to Mexico or any of the 11 states where confirmed cases of swine flu have been reported ...

"Public health officials are on high alert after the death of a child in Texas from swine flu, and officials in Wethersfield and East Haddam closed schools Wednesday.
East Haddam officials ordered the district's three schools closed when two members of a family who traveled to Cancun, Mexico, became ill.
One child attends the town's elementary school while the second attends the middle school.
A third, younger child also became sick. Wethersfield schools are closed because an employee at Silas Deane Middle School recently traveled to Mexico and he now has flu-like symptoms.

There are also suspected cases in Stratford, Southbury and Middlefield ..."

"Suspected" as we are at the end of the traditional flu season, and influenza can show false-positive screening results.

CODE RED - Move along. Nothing to see here.

Wooster Middle School sent home notices yesterday advising parents that there was a child with the flu and they were waiting for results from the CDC, but where not going to close the school. I called the BOE and they said that the school was being cleaned every night. I was not satisfied and kept my child home. I think the school should have been closed to keep the children safe.
