Young Buck,
LS does not speak for me or my neighbors. We live here because it was a nice quiet little community that people for got about except if they needed their cars registered, or went to church or the corn fest. "OUR community", yes that is what it is, thank you, has gotten too much attention--be it from the barns at comstock, the grant to give us matching benches and new signs, etc.
We are not whining, thank you very much. We are simply standing up for our much cherished way of life. Clearly, If we do not, WHO WILL?
No one here is better than anyone else, so just chill-lax.No one is turning their noses up.
This is plain old Yankee toughness.
And yes our neighborhoods here ARE special.
They may not be McMansions like in the other end of town, but they are black holes, thank you very much, in a place that is a real community in the realist sense of the word. So sorry if you do not understand what that means.
Pardon me, Liver and Onions, but I have to espouse and protect what is special to me. You would too, if you were given way too much attention.
Have a lovely summer!

Dear Bring New--
Take a look at early settlement maps. Hmm--blacksmith shops, brick makers, tannery, doctor's offices, law offices, they all had to make a livin, eh?

Yeah, they just can't make a living in OW. God forbid people try to run a business in OW. It won't be long before your "community" dries up and everyone moves out. Between your attitude and the HDC (no vinyl windows here please) it is no wonder the "rest" of Weth is fed up with you. I am glad you realize that business IS NEEDED to make a community. Why don't you let some outsiders in? Your very tone sounds like you think you are special. Just go ask your neighbor if you are special....he/she will say you are. Either that or break away from the town entirely. LS and KS could be your mayor and asst. HA HA HA.

Bingo. But who is going to dare to criticize the vice chairman of the Democratic town committee?

Dear leave OW
What are you talking about? God forbid anyone try to run a business...?..?

Hey--come on down--just bring your common sense, and remember --Wethersfield didn't become the "Most Auncient Towne" for no reason!

Listen, the bottom line here is that people do not like to be micromanaged in their own neighborhoods. No one would like it in theirs. this is what has began to happen. We have been good stewards. Let us continue. And when the "community" that you refer to "dries up," I guess so will all that has been preserved for all these years. People have pride in their community. This may be old fashioned, but that is why we live here.

Dear Attackers of a Venomous Nature:
Like most of the residents of Wethersfield you are nasty and uneighborly. Why I bother to address you at all is certainly a mystery. Firstly I would never move to a trashy place like Florida. Too much inbred hillbilly and heat do not agree with me.
I bought my home here as I am the fourth generation of my family to reside in the Onion. Do you know what this means? No certainly not, you sound like shallow newcomers. The charm that kept here has faded, like a peony bush in the rain. Due to family circumstances which I'm certainly not discussing with the likes of you on a public forum I remain at this time.
I know it's easy to gang up on someone when you are hiding behind a curtain of anonymity, and it's people like you that made we want to blow off all the grumpy old vulva's at the Grumpy Old Man forum. You will never silence me though, so keep on comin'!

Plain and simple......you (ie. those that live in OW, or should I say....Most Auncient Towne") people are insane. That phrase..."Most Auncient Towne" has just GOT TO GO.

Morgan's brilliant ideas:

1. Have a farmers market. Set it up on the grass over by DMV on Sunday and Monday, like they have that arts and crafts fair in the fall. Charge a small price for vendors to sell fruits, veggies and whatnot, charge to park in the DMV lot.
2. Have something like Tanglewood, set it up over by Mill Woods in the grassy area.
3. Parking meters for Main Street.
4. Firehouse breakfasts as fund raisers for the fire department.

Oh brilliant....these little gems will really generate some new taxes. Some are nice ideas; a farmers' market would be swell and I just LOVE Tanglewood. Pancake Breakfasts? This is your brilliant solution to the town's woes? And parking meters on Main Street? That should be good for business. Why don't we charge for parking on the Silas Deane, too? I'm sure that should attract more shoppers.

Seriously, if it was so easy to run these towns or schools, wouldn't you all be signing up for the jobs? But you're not, are you?

Watch It:

If the parole board ever lets you go somewhere, take a look around at what works other places. Think of Kennebunk Maine. All those quaint shops and nowhere to park but the town's parking lot. Kennnebunk's parking authority is just raking in the cash. Think West Hartford Center, parking meter after parking meter. But you can't think outside of your itty bitty box. That's why Wethersfield cannot succeed, because of tiny little bitty brains like yours.
