I wouldn't be so shocked if the kids were older - 15 or so - but 12? There seems to be a serious lack of moral teaching on the part of the parents. Kids don't usually rebel against their parents and their values at such a young age.

Maybe we can arrest 5 year olds? How about building a prison system for elementary school students? LETS ARREST KIDS for the "bad parenting"......sounds like a nice idea. Spend tax dollars on building jails for elementary & middle school kids, and let the parents have no responsibility.

What idiot prosecutor in the Norwalk Juvenile system decided to do this? A prosecutor has to review it because is happened over a month ago.

That prosecutor, who brought this arrest, should get her HEAD examined. The Norwalk Adult Court is a crazy enough, now we're going after 12 year-olds in Norwalk, as well? A MERRY BAND OF THUGS run our criminal justice system in Norwalk, a merry band........

Just a view from the age of the Dinosaurs; At six my generatiion played "doctor". If memory serves, we were boyscouts or girlscouts at twelve, played ball and were forced to take ballroom lessons. No preteen in the dear dead 1950s loaded film in a "Brownie" to take nude pictures of friend. I cannot help but think this was due to the quality of parenting to which we fell heir; from adults who were in large part the products of late victorian homes. I would ask how and from where did this 12 year old learn that her acts are acceptable.

Sadly, it's not so much that she learned her acts are acceptable, it's more that she never learned that they're NOT. And that stems directly from a general lack of supervision. The only boundaries she most likely has ever had placed upon her were at school. But at home, I suspect she was allowed to do as she pleased as long as she did it quietly. As a parent, I am appalled at the child's actions. I keep a watchful eye over my child and try to make sure that I am aware of what he is doing at all times. We talk about choices he makes and whether those choices are right are wrong. Although he is not at the age yet where he instant messages people, I would hope that with my guidance and supervision, he knows how to use these technologies appropriately and responsibly when he is old enough.

Haha, another one that thinks they are the best and their little angel will never do wrong because she always knows what he's doing. Sorry to break it to you, but kids do things they shouldn't. They always have, always will. So what gives you any right to comment on this girls upbringing? A kid took a picture of another and emailed it, big deal. You could talk about choices, etc with your little angel for 24hrs a day, 7 days a week, and he'll still probably get in trouble one day. That's life. Kids do stupid things! I don't agree with it, but it is what it is. Children's indiscretions are not always a reliable indicator of their upbringing.

ahh, is there anything better than the parent of a 4 year old who has all the answers? you should definitely call that 12 year old girl's parents. they will welcome your advice so willingly... maybe it's the refreshing perspective of someone who has no earthly clue as to what he or she is talking about that will make the big difference for this family. god bless you. don't forget to check back with us the first time your child makes a really wrong "choice" to let us know how that works out for you. i am sure that with mom or dad constantly over his shoulder, your little angel will never, ever ever rebel.

The world has changed since the 50s. IF you had a TV, it was strictly G-rated. Lucy and Desi slept in twin beds. Nudity did not exist on TV or even in motion pictures. The shocking beach scene in From Here to Eternity had Deborah Kerr in a swim suit with waves creashing on the shore. Teens didn't wear bikini bathing suits, much less thongs, and girls weren't allowed to wear pants to school. Womens undergarments were constructed so there was no movement to show there was actual flesh under them.

Today, you can visit a beach and see teen girls wearing bathing suits they would have been arrested for in the 50s. And they do it unself-consciously.

This is not just about parenting. It is far more about societal changes that are all around us. Attitudes about skin exposure have changed in ways we could never have imagined in the 50s. And atittudes about teen sexuality have changed similarly. Whether that is good or bad is a legitimate question, but it isn't as if these girls or their parents are functioning in a social vaccum in which the values of the 50s have somehow remained intact.

I suspect the girls understood what they were doing was not acceptable. They were being mischievous. As some teens have always been mischievous. But as the definition of "Acceptable" is stretched, teens have to go that much further to be on the edge.

Remember Cole Porter's words: "In olden days a glimpse of stocking was looked on as something shocking, but now, heaven knows, Anything Goes"

That was written in the 30s.

You`re doing it right. Don`t let these know nothings who want to discredit your parenting skills get under your skin. Raising children is a very hard job,and these nuckle heads who are extreme leftist and believe that kids are going to do wrong and that it`s no big deal are in for one big surprize if and when they become parents. I always tell people like that, "don`t reproduce", we have enough idiots in the world, don`t add to the list.I really believe that the ones that knock the good the others try to do have really screwed up lives and don`t want people like you to be a hero to your child and teach him/her the right way and have self respect. They`re always looking at life to see what they can get out of it at someone else`s expense.I guess it`s great to be young , stupid and no future at all,(Vintage saturday night live). You keep teaching your child right from wrong, and he still might make bad choices, but at least you can say that you did your best, and not just shrug your shoulders and say "oh well".I know first hand because I raised three kids the best I could and I made mistakes, but at least I made the effort. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose, but you`ve got to make the effort. I`ve noticed that there are pompus asses that like to discredit what ever anyone says and does, and I might add ,with no experience at all.Keep up the good work.

12 year olds don't understand these issues. They are in their formative years and she was just having fun. We live in a world in which 70 to 80% of the population suffers from brain dammage. This dammage causes them to be predatory which is why so many people are put in prison.

Interesting theory. So you are saying that most bad acts are caused by a medical condition of the brain and that most people have no control over their actions? Perhaps we should be putting people in hospitals rather than jails. Care to elaborate on the cause of this brain damage?

hmmmm....so if 70 to 80% of the population suffers from brain damage, that would be considered the "norm", right?

That would make the other 20 - 30% of us "abnormal".

Now i'm not sure which group i would rather be part of. Sorta like being at a frat party where everyone else is drunk, and you're the only one sober, and not having a good time.

That`s IS the problem. I believe ,according to the story , one young teen age girl took a picture or pictures of another young teen age girl, in the nude, and e mailed said picture or pictures to another teen. And the key phrase here is WHERE WERE THE PARENTS. It`s what I and a lot of other people with common sense have been saying.Kids need supervision. They shouldn`t have access to the internet unless a parent is there watching like a cop.Now I know there`s a lot of you who are going to disagree because that would be infringing on the child`s rights, but that`s exactly why stories like this make the news.Parents need to be in charge of their kids.
