Rick-Boston, I did not go to college, I realized that S&S was a dead end for me. So I got a full time job with better pay and better benefits. I invite all of the disgruntled S&S workers to do the same. Your union will not save you, you can only save yourself. BTW, it's grammar not grammer, but what do I know I need spelling lessons

what a moroon! Yeah , what ...do you work for Big Y? They are too expensive at Big Y! Look at just apples...2.49 lb at Big Y and about 1.29 lb for the same @ Big Y. If the states didn't have the few union jobs left that their are everyone would be making so much less then they are now. Unions aren't like they were years back, Times have changed. Does this guy even have a clue? Go ahead , go to stop and shop and call them all lazy..what a stupid comment..like the non union guys at mcdonalds aren't just as lazy! I don't work for Stop and Shop, but i shop their because they are union and they still have lower prices then any of the others do! But this guy supports everything non american! Drive you honda thru the line..it people like you that are ruining this country. It makes sence..lets have nothing made here in the US anymore ..no more paying jobs..we can all work at wallmart and get food stamps! I could keep going on..but like i said...what a maroon

It would be great if the union is busted. I saw that Stop N Shop already has taken newspaper ads out to hire new workers to work if the lazy union workers refuse to show up and work.
The old corrupt pigs at the unions show up at stores and force low wage high school kids into signing union cards, they intimidate older workers on assembly lines by having a few large men from the union approach old-aged workers and give them a line of BS how if they join the union working conditions will be better and the elderly workers feel intimidated by the union pigs. Then the union bosses just sit on a leather chair at some little union office and take weekly union dues out of thousands of workers and feed the workers BS that unions are what make holiday pay and bonus time and time-and-a-half possible on Sundays, even though many non-union stores have all of those same benefits.
I will not shop at Stop N Shop because they are union stores, I stopped shopping there about 8 years ago when Big Y stores entered the state, I'd rather shop at a non-union store like Big Y which does not have the corrupt union and won't allow the union pimps on their property to harass and intimidate young workers.
Union Bosses are like pimps and the young cashiers at the foodstore are like their prostitutes, giving the union bosses a cut out of their paycheck everyweek while the union bosses sit around doing nothing. The unions and their corrupt practice are what have driven so many businesses out of America, they ruined the school system and airlines and now they are going to try and push around Stop N Shop, I just hope Stop N Shop has the guts to stand up to the corrupt bullying pigs at the unions.
I have refused to buy GM and Chrysler cars for many years now due to those being unionized car plants and have instructed my family and friends to avoid those unionized car companies also. Informed consumers are seeing the results, GM keeps losing money and just this week I read that Chrysler is going to lay off thousands of union sheep. Through democracy and being educated, we can ruin these union and bust their corrupt union practices, boycotting the union pigs and not giving them a dollar is the only way to deal with those union bullies.
If the Stop N Shop workers do go on strike and form a picket line, I will drive by and honk the horn in my Honda car (made in America by non-unionized proud workers) and I will hold up my Big Y shopping bags and I'll smile at the union idiots out in the cold striking, while the union bosses will be sitting on their leather chairs in an office laughing at the uneducated clowns they have out on the streets doing their dirty work - just like how a prostitute treats the hookers he has working for them.

just remember guys and gals, the company will start small with your medical payments...and each contract it will get bigger and bigger for you...With no union they can just do it whenever they want! And everyone wonders why medical is going crazy in this country! They just charge more cecause they can and the company has no coice but to go up as well. The unions are the only thing that are keeping thing sort of in check!

That last statement simply does not apply to the state of CT in regards to the state workers. Its the one thing that unions have absolutely no control over whatsoever. The state decides what insurance company can work with them and in turn the insurance companies do there utmost best to keep increases at 5% each and every fiscal year.

The union is good for 1 thing and 1 thing only. Keeping lazy good for nothing employees working when the would have been fired anywhere else for not doing their jobs. After being in a 2 week strike in the past I will tell you that it will cost a lot of people their jobs. And the union can't do squat about it. If you think hours are tight now...wait and see...

And 1 reason some employees have to work so hard is that their coworker is hiding in the back room rather than do his job...or maybe he is taking a 45 minute bathroom break..but the union will get him his job back rather than get a good worker in there making it harder for you...

How much does one of your employees make on the average? I'll tell you how much- the SAME as a lot of people who have NO benefits and NO retirement. WHY is that, you ask? It is because unions have asked for far too much in the past, weakening the power of the employee and driving business overseas.

So go ahead and strike, and be just another sucker in the long sad history of union labor in this country. They can always replace a grocery worker, and if they can't replace you, they will move overseas.

AND if you want more from your job, FIND ONE that pays better, or get a better education! Do what people who work hard and are successful do instead of hiding behind a union.

[I HAVED WORKED FOR 20 YEARS AT [email protected] AND I WORK VERY HARD FOR WHAT I HAVE EARNED. THE UNION PROTECTS MY JOB SO THEY CAN'T DECIDE THAT I MAKE TOO MUCH AND TOSS ME OUT WHEN THEY WANT.AS FOR MEDICAL THEY GIVE US THE BOTTOM OF THE BARREL FOR INSURANCE AND NOW WANT ME TO PAY FOR IT I WOULD RATHER GET MY INSURANCE SOMEWHERE ELSE IF THEY WANT M E TO PAY FOR IT AT LEAST I WILL BE PAYING FOR WHAT INSURANCE I NEED FOR MY FAMILY.

Like I said, unions have driven out a lot of the high-wage jobs that most people can fill in favor of low paying ones favoring people that will take YOUR job sooner rather than later. The ONLY way to survive in this current climate is to get a better education and get a better job through aquiring better skills. People shouldnt work at a grocery store as a career and expect to be paid almost the same and get benefits as those who have more education and more experience in other fields- it is just not going to happen.

Unions have lost their power because they try and go for WAY too much and end up losing out.

I think the employees did originally.

George, I found this in another article. It doesn't look like the employees will have a choice anymore.
"If union leaders fail to reach an agreement with the company by Sunday, rank-and-file members of the five locals would vote on the company's latest offer. Balloting is to be conducted in the morning and afternoon at separate locations in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island."

Would be interesting to see if the rank and file approve this, but the leadership doesn't; or vice versa. Thanks for the update.
