The Harrison County Commission has outlived its’ usefulness. But as long as there in there we will have to look very close at the next candidate to fill the position. We will ask a lot of questions up front.Number one ,will be "will you represent the people fairly,. Number two, would you be willing to resign if you can't deliver on your campaign promises? Number three,Will you carry out the wishes of the majority of voters. Just a sample of the questions that will be asked.
Trying to represent the people fairly? What does that mean...consult you to arbitrate fairness?

Campaign promises are worthless is the first instance. I wouldn't qualify because I wouldn't make you or anyone else any campaign promises.

Carry out the wishes of the majority? First are you going to be the arbiter of just exactly what the majority wants? Second, it isn't the job of an elected official to always carry out the wishes of the majority. Don't presumes the majority is always correct.

A wiser man than me once said that democracy is a two wolves and a a sheep deciding what to eat for lunch. Is that what you want? IF so, then count me out.

I'm talking specifically about the UBC law that was passed,it was clear what the majority wanted and didn't get. Also they let this water project stew for 20 yrs and done nothing except throw all the taxpayers money at Chas Point and Bridgeport. Hell
people around the West end of the county have been without sewer and water for years. Vote them out before they do more harm to us.

What you are referring to here is a good example of why the majority may not always be right....if that was actually what the majority wanted......did you take vote on it?

In any event, you and several others have portrayed the county commission as unresponsive and evil, primarily because you disagree with them. However, I'm willing to bet that none of you have ever actually studied the property maintenance code or asked anyone about what it really means or how it really operates, and you don't really want to here it anyway.

The truth is that the code you are referring to is full of safeguards that go to considerable trouble to protect individual property rights. You cannot lose your property arbitrarily or on a whim of a government bureaucrat. The only purpose of the code is to give the government a tool to use to deal with property owners who are completely irresponsible and unwilling to keep their property in a minimum condition to avoid public safety and health hazards.

Can it be used in a heavy-handed manner. Of course it can. But it's hardly the evil government weapon that a lot of people portray it to be.

It's online and yes I have read it and know that it can be misused. Thats why we have a constitution and a Bill of Rights in this country. So the government can't misuse laws. This UBC can be misused. Maybe not by this Commission but who knows what the next Commission may want to do for their own self interest's?

Let's see how it works for the people of the County when we complain about the East end Salem Dump when the law takes effect in Jan 2010.

Yeah we will see if the tool (UBMC) has teeth in January.

That dump is not in the city, and it falls under a different law. The city itself has already filed a complaint with the county under the appropriate legal provisions.

Well, it's comforting to know that somebody local still has entrepreneurial spirit.

It's ironic that the best looking spot in town is the new Sewer plant. They say the grass always grows greener over the septic tank.(Sewer Plant).

Daily Horoscope for December 10

Cancer

Someone dear to your heart isn't exactly a barrel of laughs today, are they? Is it your imagination or are they taking a perverse delight in spreading doom and gloom in all directions? If they've got good reason to be miserable then they deserve your sympathy, but even so it may not last for long. Try to keep active and cheerful, otherwise you'll also develop a tendency to brood.
