This wise (sic) council is always whining about lack of money and want more......However, one of the biggest items on the budget is the Police Department and their 50k of overtime a year. The Lewis County Sheriffs Department is right in town, the WVSP are closeby....why do we need a Municipal Police Force? Jobs? Patronage? Sovereignty? Power?......Everytime anything big happens the Weston Police Departments calls in the others.....they are redundant......Pay Lewis County for two officers and be done with it. The City would save about 300k a year. What do you think?

I totally agree Betty Boop! The city cops behave like the keystone cops anyway! I know a gal whose house was smashed in to by a car - the dude was speeding and out of control (and probably under the influence though no one will ever know because there was no test taken at the scene)- Anyway - this guy smashed through the bedroom wall throwing this girl out of bed - also destroying the gas meter and filling her house with gas -and this moron cop never once bothered to check to see if she was ok - he also never cited the driver for ANYTHING (no reckless driving, no failure to maintain control, no speeding.. NADA)- and wrote up the report that the guy hit an EMPTY house. This same cop has been overheard saying he was just biding his time until he could retire. I mean, seriously? Could we not do better with no cops at all? The cop did NOTHING at the scene besides lock his own keys in his squad car. Your idea is brilliant Betty Boop!

I am just curious if you two are aware that the state police who are so close by usually only have one officer on duty and he goes off duty at midnight. Are you aware that on most nights after 9pm the Sheriff's Department only has one officer on duty. So I think you are right lets get rid of all the city policeman so that from midnight until 8am there will only be one policeman working that is a plan. Oh wait I had a better idea maybe if the Weston Police was a fully funded and fully staffed police department they would do better. You ever heard the saying that you get what you pay for? Oh and one more thing it has been a long time since the Weston Police Department has had to call another agency to come into Weston and work a case because they couldn't handle it.

"Do u Know"...How is the City of Weston going to "pay" for a fully funded Police Force?? They are a financial basket case. Please read my post carefully, I suggested that the City of Weston PAY the LCSD for two extra officers and save $$$.

You need a City Police force to handle crime within the City Limits. What happens if you do away with the City Police & the Sheriff's Department & State Police are out in the County on Drug Busts? Who is going to handle the crimes being committed within the City Limits at the same time?

My only problem with the Weston City Police is that they are too chicken to enforce the law.

They have been asked, repeatedly, to keep the rednecks out of the parking lots at CVS & Rite-Aid at night & yet they can't seem to do that.

Is it going to take another person being killed at Go-Mart for the WPD to start doing their jobs???

Maybe it's time to replace Rob Clem with someone who can make the City Officers do their jobs!!!
