angry volunteer

Buckhannon, WV

#1 Sep 30, 2011
After taking the time to volunteer in the search for many days, I was totally sickened today by something that is happening.

The Bendale Church has been taking donations of food, beverages, etc. and what many of you probably don't know is that they are hoarding the items for themselves & the church pantry.

I agree that the pantry should be replenished with anything that was depleted by this tragedy and I also think that other churches that helped should be replenished also. After that, before taking home the POP (that is not a "NEEDED" item) how about giving it to the people who have been volunteering the longest first???

The women of that church are taking this opportunity to make "care packages" for themselves & their friends & have even been overheard saying things like "No not that. They don't like that kind" Really?

I would think that if people are in need....real need..... they wouldn't be too damned picky. That's just my thought.

This was taken from Commissioner Agnes Quinn Queen's FB Page. It was posted by Ashey Wright Moore:
There are multiple reports of several women packing up care packages of donated food for those that they deem 'in need' that attend certain churches and the food is not being utilized for the search members. I can not believe that these things are happening and it is sickening.
Food is being collected for search members and those helping find Aliayah. I know that the holidays are fast approaching, and I hope that we can come together so that every family always has hot meals on their plates.
But to "box up" food for people that you (the certain women that are at the Bendale Church doing this) feel are the deserving is disgusting right now!!!

Also:

Most food is being utilized for search members, but sadly I have a correction to this: it is the ladies of the Bendale UM Church that have decided to box up care packages for those that they feel are in need that attend Bendale Church, and to also restock their pantry.

Why would anyone be boxing up food that will be needed for a weekend of searching coming up????

What FB page is this happening on? Comm Queen's page?

I don't know what any of you are talking about. As of yesterday at 9am I haven't even been at the search site. My 7 year old son had to be a Ruby Hospital in Morgantown for an appointment. After which we came home and left town for a long weekend that was promised to my son months ago. As for any post on my wall have not deleted anything and have no clue what you are talking about. If you like I will contact Facebook for a full report of my page. Thank you Agnes

I just went out and bought two boxes of items to donate...now I'm a little concerned about giving it to the church. Are there any other drop-off places available?

Oh, this is sad.

Perhaps the Church is donating the leftover perishable food?

Perishable food, I could understand, but I hope they really aren't doing what is rumored.

But if the searches are/were over, I wouldn't have a problem with them using the leftovers to help needy families in the area.

Unless a lot of people who donated only for the searchers want their uneaten/unused snack cakes back. I mean, there's no sense in causing an uproar or riot.:/

Quote from FB:

"The Bendale Church is currently footing the bill for all of the utilities that are being used 24/7 there for the efforts to find Aliayah.(I asked if the utility companies will 'write-off' the time that the search is going on, the answer was no) Any help would be appreciated. So, if you would like to make a monetary donation, all monies are being kept separate.... but you must specify.
Checks may be made out to Bendale UM Church.
In the subject line,*please* put "Aliayah Lunsford--Utility Reimbursement" (or Donation, or For Food & Supplies, whatever you want your $$ to go to in this effort, but you need to put her name).
Bendale UM Church
1163 Us Hwy 19 S
Weston, WV 26452"

Thank you Bendale Church for doing all that you're doing to help aid in the search.

People should be ashamed of themslees for posting these kinds of rumors on facebook! If she had actual knowledge of this happening, she should take it to the pastor of the church or the people organizing the searches. What kind of person would hinder the process of finding this little girl by trying to get people to stop donation food for the searchers? Unbelievable.

Sorry for the typos.

Doesn't this church also have a food pantry? I don't think anyone would expect them to stop doing that while they are helping the searchers.
