McKinney police confirm SWAT involved shooting in Wylie
By Danny Gallagher, McKinney Courier-Gazette Published: Thursday, November 12, 2009 1:38 AM CST McKinney police said members of their tactical team shot a threatening suspect involved in a domestic disturbance standoff in Wylie to death. The MPD released an official statement on Wednesday regarding the officer involved shooting that took place Monday in Wylie and took the life of 27-year-old Jeremy Bates. Wylie Police first responded to the call at 10:47 a.m. Monday in the 600 block of Odenville Way. Susan Chumley, Bates' mother, told police that her son "was intoxicated and head butted her," according to a statement released by McKinney police Lt. Scott Brewer said. Officers arrived on the scene and found Chumley sitting on her porch with a laceration on her forehead. They could also hear Bates "cussing and being irate that the police were at his residence." They also could hear "what sounded like a shotgun being 'racked.'" Officers secured the scene by evacuating nearby homes, closing off streets and putting several local schools on lockdown. Wylie Police Chief John Duscio contacted the MPD and requested mutual aid with their Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team to assist in the call. By the time the SWAT team arrived at the home, Bates had barricaded himself in the house, Brewer said. Responding officers from McKinney, Plano, Wylie and the Collin County Sheriff's Office had great concern about Bates' response to the situation since he had resisting arrest, search and transportation charges on his "lengthy arrest record," Brewer said. Officers described Bates' behavior as "aggressive" and "increasingly more dangerous throughout the standoff." He repeatedly threatened to "shoot and kill" any officer who approached his residence to officers and negotiators. He eventually pointed a shotgun at members of the McKinney SWAT team posted at the rear of the residence. Officers opened fire at Bates, and Bates ran back into the house. Negotiators again tried to contact Bates, but received no response. Officers sent a robot into the residence to locate Bates and discovered he had been injured. Paramedics entered the home and confirmed Bates had died. It is not known if an autopsy has been completed as of Wednesday. Brewer said members of the Texas Department of Public Safety, specifically the Texas Rangers, will investigate the shooting. "Both the MPD and the Wylie PD are fully cooperating with the investigation," Brewer said. Brewer also noted he could not release any additional information regarding this incident as of Wednesday. 1 A verbatim repeat of the MPD's doubtful story, filled with the same tired unchallenged creative writing wordage. Seriously. Does Danny ever do anything other than re-write or just outright copy what's handed to him? Here's a forthright budget suggestion for the Courier-Gazette, a member of a business group that's bleeding money like a sieve. Why not simply post a link to the MPD’s web site and 86 Danny boy and send him packing? He may be the greatest guy in the world and nothing personal is held against him on this front. But when it comes to his “reporting services” would there really be any difference? What value does he add other than to parrot what he's told? Things we'd like to know, such as "has Albert Rodriguez been called in to organize the MPD's in house story line yet?" are left completely uninvestigated. If not another suggestion this time for MPD and their righteous band of legal beagles: Contact DPS Officer Ima Shill. We hear she’s someone’s protégé and will do a good job fabricating everyone’s story neatly into line. It will have absolutely nothing to do with forensics; but it will make for another amusing, phantasmagorical read. |

Always one retard in the group. You are recognized as the "I'm call 911 for everything". Yoe are weak and have the IQ of a 2 year old dog. Nobody cares about you opinion because you really never present one. Bla bla bla is what I hear everytime you post your stupid opinion.

According to media and the McKinney Police website the Texas Rangers have taken over the investigation. MPD does have the information posted on it's web page. You have to look it up. Right there on the front page.

Talking to yourself again Justice? Aren't those voices in your pea sized brain annoying? You do have to agree with yourself though, don't you? Must drive you nuts having to debate with yourself only to conclude that you once again agree with yourself after all. (And dear, your fake mis-spellings don't even fool yourself - do they, yourself? But as you've told yourself before, you're not very smart and you know you agree with you on your point.) |

No. Try this instead: "God, Bless and protect all good law enforcement officers." "God, Damn To The Never Ending Burning Hell Fire all bad law enforcement officers." |

1 Don't worry about it, you just had a brief online run-in with the town whacko. McKinney is a great place to live if you are a law abiding citizen. Topix is a great site for crybabies who can't post on other sites that require registration. Try Mckinneyconnection.com for intelligent conversation about McKinney. |

You mean the person who wont even post their name. At least justice is correct. I believe he is writting in words you can understand.. Good job SWAT.

No harm. I actually find people like "justice" amusing and intriguing. I haven't figured out yet if he/she is somone who feels like they've been kept down by "the man" and every encounter they've had with the law was through no fault of their own in their mind or if they are actually a junior high kid who just likes being an idiot on the computer to see if they can get a rise out of someone. I'm leaning towards the latter but am not 100% sure yet. I guess if the next post is asking to meet them behind the playground after school to settle this once and for all,I'll have my answer. Hopefully there will actually be something intelligent and witty that will keep me guessing even longer. Come on "justice",you can do it. |

Is "finder" your first or you last name? LOL ! But thank you anyway for agreeing with all my posts. |

1 It's a little hard to take someone to rehab when they are pointing a shotgun directly at you! Everyone makes choices in their lives and unfortunately, he made one he can't take back. It sucks for everyone involved, then end. |
