The total quantities of oil that the US bought from Venezuela have nothing to do with Venezuela’s poverty, bribery, lawlessness, and stealing of state, as you are implying… If anything, it should be better then. If the past governments decided to steal it, is not US fault.
Now, everything that you are saying that used to be is much worst today… The majority of the monies made by the today’s sales of “state” are not being used to improve the conditions to many social-sectors that (critically) need improvements, as claimed by Chavez. The change of system is still in need…
It is not only the “opposition” that is complaining, it is that the statistics are “speaking” its reality… If you visit Venezuela today, you will SEE the reality of Chavez’s government…He literally made a Havana out of Caracas, a Cuba out of Venezuela.
And I understand why some of then (Chavistas) think that they are in heaven; many are walking around with no clothes, no shoes, and it is illegal to eat the Apples. He is just making an illusion of improvements, and blaming others (especially US) he’s failures.
Get a close look and see that most of the people had lowered their living standards. Isn’t that weir that a country with so much-rich oil gets worst by the minute???

It is still in a state of poverty. It has one of the highest murder and crime rates in the world. Chavez is just pandering to the poor for support. His real agenda is to control all of South America as a communist/socialist region. He has asparations of being more powerful than Castro was in his heyday. He is trying to gain support from China and Iran to do so. It is to these countries intrests to do so also, at this point.
