I find it ironic that the "whole town being trashed" by someone is the wrong town. The two assailants were from Westminster. A previous poster here mentioned drug dealers in Gageville. Again that's Westminster. Another poster mentioned hanky-panky at a rest-area, no rest areas I know of in BF..must be Westminster or Rockingham. Perhaps if other towns kept their own trash there would be less trash in BF and less trashing OF BF.
Did you not see the WHOLE STATE OF VT IS BEING "TRASHED" not just a town????

Ok, the problems I have with this article (and comments) are:

Zach was not charged with "Accessory after the fact". If he was charged for that simply because he didn't stop the assault, everyone else that stood around and watched it happen would have to be charged with the same thing.

I have known both of these boys since they were in kindergarten. Jason has never been in trouble before. Zach just sold his motorcycle to get enough money to buy supplies to repair a disabled woman's home, and is doing all the work himself.

If they were horrible people or habitual offenders, I could see going with a stiff punishment. I am not saying Jason didn't make a mistake and that he shouldn't be held accountable, but do you really think he deserves to have a more harsh sentence than Andrew Bedner, who 2 years ago right up the river in Springfield bashed his 8 week old daughter's skull in, killing her to stop her from crying, and just received a sentence of 12 years in prison?? How would it be fair or just to put Jason away for longer than that piece of garbage?

It is sad when ppl we know & love do foolish things which cause harm to others. It is sadder when ppl we know & love are viciously assaulted for no reason.

I'm going to have to side w/the victim & am tired of hearing what a great person someone was or is. They lost that status when they made the choice to harm another person. Violence against anyone is serious. Against those who are more vulnerable-the very elderly, longterm care & children make this crime more serious.

That a change comes from this is the greatest outcome, as it hopefully will not be repeated. However, violent crimes are very serious & cannot go unpunished as this puts anyone & everyone @ risk.

The penalties should take into consideration the severity of the assault. The man suffered severe injuries. He could easily have been a casualty. The drunkeness will perhaps be considered a mitigating factor.

The one who did not actually assault the victim was with the one who did & the one with the most likely opportunity to have discouraged the action, and was involved in events prior to the assault. He could have walked away, but did not. This is partly why he is also facing charges.

He is not in the same category as those who did not intervene, as he was one of the ones who started the fight w/the victim.

Someone DID intervene. In order to successfully intervene, would have had to be a concerted effort.

Those who witnessed the assault are now all witnesses. If their stories all match, more important than risking their safety since it was unecessary @ the point someone else intervened.

fasinating that not 1 comment asks did the old guy provoke the attack by saying something to set the crazy kid off ?

People defending him should asks themselves how would they feel if he was married to or dating their daughter or sister or friend and got drunk and bashed her face in because she said the wrong thing at the wrong time ?

Lots of people get drunk and don't go crazy on somebody over nothing, this guy has some bad problems for sure.
