I'm glad to see that they are able to prove he was drunk.
It seems that there are more and more stories of cops and firefighters etc... who are getting nailed for driving drunk, assault etc.
These FEW bad apples need to be made an example of that they are NOT above the law....as it appears they believe they are.
And the courts and police need to make sure these people are treated NO different than any other citizen would be.
In order to show the public that we are ALL being treated the same.
If any favoritism is shown......it can weaken how the public feels about its police and firefighters etc.

I agree that everyone including police officers and firefighters should all be treated the same as a civilian, but this kid is not a bad apple. He was drunk and made a mistake to drive drunk and he is going to have to pay for it. I wish the best for the families in this matter and my prays go out to the family of the FF who had past on.

You really can't practice favoritism when it becomes a front page fatal crash. I am sure there is still a some favoritism when it comes to getting fellow officers home if the they have been pulled over for "bumping a line" or some other probable cause event.
It is a very sad story. Both men in the car were fine and decent guys. With all respect, this really is no time to point out no one is above the law

Why is it that whenever someone is a cop or a Firefighter, the thinking is that they a good apple; but if someone does the same thing who is not a cop or a Firefighter; everyone thinks that they are a complete looser and a threat to public safety?

Aren't there any bad apples and loosers performing public service jobs? If you are stupid enough to say no; I can find an example of a bad cop on the internet each and every day. Firefighters don't get caught with their hands in a poopie pie as often as cops; but they do break the law themselves; as we can all see here.

In this case we have someone who was paid by the taxpayers to protect us; but instead he got drunk and drove and endangered us.....It is very sad that another Firefighter died; but it would have been even sadder if it was a mother and a few kids.....

THROW THE F-ING BOOK AT THIS GUY.....GOOD APPLE OR BAD APPLE! MAKE AN EXAMPLE OF HIM FOR ALL THE COPS AND THE FIREFIGHTERS TO SEE. PUNISH HIM WORSE THAN A NON PUBLIC SERVANT!!!!!!!!!!

WHAT A DISGRACE TO FIREFIGHTERS,I SINCERELY HOPE
HE GETS NO SPECIAL TREATMENT,I THOUGHT IT STRANGE
WHEN TRAGEDY OCCURED THERE WAS NO MENTION OF POSSIBILITY OF DRUGS ALCOHOL OR SPEED INVOLVED.
LETS HOPE FOR THE VICTIMS FAMILY JUSTICE WILL BE SERVED AND THIS DESPICABLE INDIVITUAL IS FORCED TO SUFFER THE CONSEQENCES OF HIS ACTIONS.

Good point. If I got drunk, then drove, and then got into an accident that killed my passenger, the first headlines would have said something like: "Passenger dies in car crash, Driver's alcohol level likely to blame." Or, "Man dies in car crash, Police looking into speed or alchohol to blame."

This guy gets it all white washed; until the truth could no longer be hidden from the public.

But, is ANYONE surprised over how this was handled? Outraged yes; but surprised, no......

you giant piece of crap you must be some old whine bag. I'll bet when you were that age drunk driveing was dealt with much differently. I wonder at that age if you held yourself to the same standards you preach, which i doubt .That kid made the same mistake thousands have made .He has no police record and worked as a medic before becoming a firefighter .He is a very careing and thoughtfull person. No matter how much time they give him, im positive what he holds over himself is much worse than any amount of jail time.Thats why this country is great because unlike blind communist{or liberals} laws, this country judges the individual and does not listen to witch hunters like yourself.if your looking for that kind of justice move to anouther country

You sound like either a relative or a close friend to the drunken driver.

Here is how his punishment should be administered: No more jail time, and no less jail time than a non-Firefighter would get for the same crime.......

Again, I knew of a kid in a local town a few years back who was less than 21 years old who drove drunk and killed his passenger. The passenger was his friend. The drunken driver in this case was sent to Walpole Prison; not the Billerica House of Correction.

That sounds like the right punishment to me for this Firefighter. If this State can send a boy to Walpole Prison for this crime; they should do it to a grown man who commited the identical crime; Firefighter or not!

Real Deal, sounds like you have a chip on your shoulder or something. What is your problem? Do you ever think that the guys family is going to read these? You're a loser. Like you never had a few and then drove. two time s the legal limit. You ever remember winking because their were too many lines. Thought so.....Hypocrite

Consider the tax structure in this state. This isn't about one "bad apple"; its about a rotten orchard.

When you treat firemen and police as equals to the public in law, then you have a vote.

they are no less fallible than the rest of us and should face the consequences others face when they choose to break the law and choose to endanger the lives of innocent citizens.

this loser 'fireman' needs to be jailed for a long time due to his choices.
