gad,
The tax rate isn't the only variable that determines the cost to the homeowner. When Westminster takes a simple 3 bedroom house and determines the market value of the house to 3 times what it is in any of the neighboring towns, that is an unfair inflation of taxes.
Add to that with a yearly attempt at over riding prop 2 1/2 to fund your average schools, and you get the picture.
These are your results for better schools??

seems like these schools should be doing much better than they are considering they constantly scream for more money, have a lot fewer "non-english" speaking students as a percentage of the student population, and a superior living style as you have put it!
and you really shouldn't pick on our hookers...they need love too!
Prices in Westminster aren't any higher than in Leominster or Gardner for a comparable house and lot (we did plenty of looking around before buying). I actually couldn't find a better deal locally than what I found in Westminster without moving to a shady ass neighborhood, which I wasn't about to do. 1700 sq/ft, 1.5 acres, quiet neighborhood, 235k. That's about half of what I would have expected to pay in northern middlesex county where I grew up; I consider it a steal. I would've spent about the same in any of the other towns around here, cuz that's how much I had to spend, and I wouldn't be seeing any sort of significant difference in my tax bill. I guess the only difference is Westminster doesn't have a whole bunch of ramshackle shitshacks and condos that people can pick up for 80k, roaches and section 8 neighbors included. I can probably make do without any of that.

Far as schools - well, we lived in Gardner when our oldest was in first grade. The building was falling in on itself, the staff was none too impressive, and most of the other students seemed to have one foot in the trailer park. MCAS scores aren't the be-all end-all (though you'll notice that the vast majority of G-Vegas' are a good bit lower).

Why would anyone be jealous with Westminster and Ashburnham taxing their residents to death and providing so little for it. I've known several people that found the taxation completely ridiculous in Westminster and moved out.
Nothing there to be jealous about, and if you had worthy businesses to purchase things...we would.
You call the Chinese Food place chinese food? It is disgusting, but typical for a town that couldn't possibly know what Chinese food really is.
Meanwhile, keep up the good work in Ashburnham where we keep reading about the towns collapse...yup, sure am jealous!
What are you,a janitor at Tyco?.What does a Chinese Restaurant have to do with idiot drivers. You couldn't even spell Restaurant. You had to call it a Chinese Food place. Oh,and it's run by Chinese people, not the town. Go clean some toilets and empty some trash, simpleton.

Your true colors are showing ...green. Are you jealous that we choose to live in a nice town with good people. If that makes us yuppies then yes we are. We choose to live without the crime rate of other towns such as Fitchburg. That is horrible of us huh?
You live in a town where the kids live with their parents until they die and then they take over the house. You live in a town where the senior elder citizens judge all the citizens to see if they fit the town's image. Crime rate? Lots of crime in Westminster, they choose not to publish it because it will hurt their image. Westminsterkentucky is one freaky town to stay away from !

Local crime rates aren't determined by what is 'published'. Duh.

Maybe Mayberry/Westminter should stop taking Tyco's property taxes if they can't provide a safe road for Tyco employees to drive home on. Most towns would be thrilled to have that many more cars going by their downtown businesses daily.
The town of Westminster will "take" Tyco's taxes as long as they own property in town. How about the residents stop paying their taxes until Tyco employees stop making it unsafe for them to cross the street to get their mail, or go for a walk to the center of town. What makes the employees of Tyco so special? Is their precious time more important than that of the residents of Westminster? West Main Street is thickly settled and the speed limit is 35 miles an hour. The cops know they are speeding through town, so I'd pay attention to your speed and give the residents of Westminster the same respect you would expect in your own town. The residents on this street are not "thrilled" to have the constant speeding traffic that is the result of this construction project. The only thing making the road unsafe to drive on, is people like you, speeding down the road without consideration for anyone else but yourself.

Typical self-centered union attitude.
