While solar electric is 'cooler' and more expensive, they would get a better bang for the $ by spending the money on conservation and solar hot water (in the case of the schools)

Too Bad the City of Fitchburg does not have the leadership to develop alternative sources of energy. Maybe we could even purchase a few solar powered street lights? Why are we so afraid of Unitil?

A solar system for generating electricity even after the rebates from the Feds and State will take about 7 to 10 years to recoup the installation, and costs about 30 cents per KWH to produce.
Unitil's cost for producing a KWH of electricity is about 18 cents per KWH. Solar electricity is still way too expensive to be a reasonable alternative for most people.
It doesn't make sense to install alternative power sources that are more expensive than the current methods.
