Largely because of course the only foreign policy experience Mittens has had was when he was dodging the draft in France during Vietnam.

10-part report raises questions about narrative of Obama's early life

A newly published report raises questions about some established narratives in the early life of President Obama, suggesting the president's upbringing was one of privilege and not hardship.
The Washington Examiner published a 10-part report detailing Obama's path to the White House. Some of the information appears to conflict with the narratives the Obamas and the Democratic Party have pushed, most recently at the party's convention in Charlotte.
At the convention, Michelle Obama said they "were both raised by families who didn't have much in the way of money or material possessions."
Examiner Executive Editor Mark Tapscott questioned that.
"I'm sure he had a difficult childhood given the circumstances with his parents, but from a financial standpoint and social standpoint and so forth , it was not an underprivileged childhood," Tapscott said.
The Examiner reports that the Indonesian neighborhood, Menteng, where Obama's mother and step-father raised the young Barry Soetoro was the most exclusive in Jakarta.
Later sent to live with his grandparents in Hawaii where his grandmother was a bank vice president, Obama attended the exclusive Punahoe school. He later went on to Columbia University and Harvard Law School.
But while he worked in the city's impoverished Southside, he lived in exclusive Hyde Park.
Of his 12 years as a lecturer at the University of Chicago Law School, Time Magazine said in 2008: "Within a few years he had become a rock star professor with hordes of devoted students." But student evaluations obtained by the Examiner tell a different story. In 2003, only a third of students recommended his courses.
"It went steadily down in the last five or six years that he was there. He was among the lowest-ranked professors," Tapscott said.
Nor did the future president leave any record of scholarly writings, while similarly credentialed colleagues had a prolific presence in law journals.
"He showed up to class, he gave his lectures and he was gone," Tapscott said.
The Examiner found sharp contrasts between Obama's memory of his legal work, and the record of it.

REPORT: Biggest Donor To Romney And GOP Did Business With Chinese Mob

By Ali Gharib on Jul 16, 2012 at 4:24 pm

GOP mega-donor and casino kingpin Sheldon Adelson
Things are getting awkward for Sheldon Adelson, the casino magnate who pledged to spend a “limitless” amount of money to get Mitt Romney elected. Adelson’s latest woes stem from business practices surrounding his lucrative casino in Macau, the only Chinese city with legalized gambling.

The Macau operation has long been under scrutiny but a new in-depth investigation from ProPublica and PBS focused on allegations of improper, and perhaps in some cases illegal, business dealings by Adelson’s Las Vegas Sands company in China. While focusing on the possibility that Sands violated the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act with a $700,000 payment to a Chinese associate, PBS also released documents that bolstered accusations of business ties between Adelson’s shop and Chinese organized crime figures.

PBS reports that Sands was clear that, in order to drive business from mainland China to their Macau casino, they would need to use “junkets”— trips arranged by private companies to ferry high-stakes gamblers to Macau:

Among the junket companies under scrutiny is a concern that records show was financed by Cheung Chi Tai, a Hong Kong businessman.

Cheung was named in a 1992 U.S. Senate report as a leader of a Chinese organized crime gang, or triad. A casino in Macau owned by Las Vegas Sands granted tens of millions of dollars in credit to a junket backed by Cheung, documents show.

Cheung did not respond to requests for comment.

Another document says that a Las Vegas Sands subsidiary did business with Charles Heung, a well-known Hong Kong film producer who was identified as an office holder in the Sun Yee On triad in the same 1992 Senate report. Heung, who has repeatedly denied any involvement in organized crime, did not return phone calls.

Because Nevada gambling authorities forbid doing any business with organized crime, Sands’s Las Vegas gambling licenses could hang in the balance.(Adelson and his company refused to comment for the PBS story.) But Adelson has other issues with his China operations.

GLUG GLUG GLUG:

Mitt Romney's path to the White House is getting ever narrower as a new round of polls shows him lagging in Iowa, Colorado and Wisconsin—three states where he had hoped to find new stepping stones to an Electoral College majority.

Mitt Romney plans to spend more time campaigning in swing states amid fears President Barack Obama had a lead even before a controversial video surfaced.
In Iowa, President Barack Obama has opened a 50% to 42% lead among likely voters in a Wall Street Journal/NBC/Marist poll, just four months after Marist found the two candidates in a dead heat.

Mr. Romney has been trying to make a serious contest of Wisconsin, home state of his running mate Rep. Paul Ryan, but the new poll found him trailing there 50% to 45%. Mr. Obama led by the same margin in Colorado—a state he won in 2008 but has been battling to hold onto this year.

The results come at a time when other recent polls have shown dimming prospects for Mr. Romney in major battleground states like Virginia and Ohio, and his campaign has struggled to regain its footing after a series of campaign setbacks and missteps.
