Ohio man charged in wrong-way wreck that killed 2 teens

Mar 29, 2008 | Posted by: The Associated Press | Full story: The Associated Press

An Ohio man is accused in Tennessee of driving the wrong way while intoxicated and causing a crash that killed two teenagers earlier this month.

Authorities say 27-year-old Jack D. Schidlowski of Olmsted Falls, Ohio, has been charged with two counts of vehicular homicide by intoxication.

Police say Kimberly Harper and Taylor Rae Rogerson died in the March 13 crash on Highway 67. Both were 18-years-old.

Police say toxicology tests show Schidlowski was intoxicated.

Authorities say Schidlowski was seriously injured in the crash and has had at least two surgeries at a medical center in Johnson City, Tennessee. He remains hospitalized and a bond has been set at $75,000. Read more

What in God's name were two TEENAGERS doing out at 2am? I know what I was doing out that late when I was 18. Did anyone look into wether or not the girls were intoxicated in some way? I mean, these girls were in high school, right? I honestly don't think that this was looked into as much as it should have been... I believe that Mr. Schidlowski is being blamed for this simply because he is the only one still living from the accident. Do you really believe that he meant for this to happen? Do you think he likes being where he is at? I feel like he has suffered enough. They call things like this "accidents" for a reason. Because it was simply that... an accident.

I am not sure why the young ladies were out as I was not there and I presume that you were not there either. They may have stopped off to get something to eat after work or a school event, however they were not at fault for this crash. But the one thing that I do know is that this man was not forced to drink, but he did so, at his own doing. Therefore he must stand up and face what ever the civil courts deals him. . The very least that he should get is 5-15 years for the killing of these two young ladies.

Where in the story does it state that the 2 girls were on their way home from work? No one was at the accident but the three that were involved. Do you honestly think that for one second Mr. Schdilowski remembers the accident. It will take a long time for him to recover from this accident. Yes it is very unfortunate that 2 girls were killed, but the story doesn't state all the facts. The story simply puts the blame on Jack Schidlowski because he is the only one that survived the accident.

Jack Schidlowski was drunk and driving in the early morning hours. So drunk, in fact, that he did not event realize he was driving the wrong way on the highway. The two girls had every right to be where they were. Jack Schidlowski had no right---let me say that again---no right to be drunk, behind the wheel of his old volvo, and driving the wrong way. Sure he did not "intend to do it". If he had "intended to do it", it would be called "murder". Instead, he was DUI and killed to people. Jack Schidlowski may "feel bad" about it, but he is not dead. He has been charged with two counts of vehicular homicide and will likely end up in prison for about 10 years at Tennessee's Brushy Mountain. Be sure to send him some soap on a rope! How can anyone with more than 2 functioning brain cells feel sorry for such a loser. He killed two people.

How about you stop criticizing my friend and her friend and look at the facts. Mr. Schidlowski was INTOXICATED driving on the WRONG SIDE of the highway and hit my friend head on and killed her and her friend. Go to hell!

Dear Anonymous,

It's been every bit of three years since this happened and I just wanted to tell you that if I were to have seen this when you wrote it, I would have probably found a way to Ohio to give you a piece of my mind. The reason they were out at 2:30AM is not the concern. He was drunk and killed two young females because he was driving on the wrong side of the highway. So please, before you go and offend everyone, take everything into consideration. You have got to be kidding me! I really wish I knew who you were.

Im so sick of people saying my cousin is a bad person and he isn't thats not the case at all and i think that its bullshit u guys r blaming him for the shit that has goin on....he was unfamiliar with the place he had hardly been living there long as a guide that doesn't excuse his actions at all but i think that both parties were intoxicated and for the girls to be working where they were working at and pictures of beers and blunts at 18 come on people yes everyone will be judge mental but if he had died as well it would be a tradgdy all around. jack suffers everyday with the fact that two girls were killed because of what happened so please everyone stop making it seem like he is totally to blame and if anyone wants to make a trip to ohio by all means u will have one hell of a fight on ur hands it seems as tho the girls were on the wrong path to begin with so one way or another something tragic was going to happen.

Guess what. Your cousin killed my cousin! She and her friend were working that late at that place so they could afford to go visit their fathers during spring break. And because your cousin got into a car drunk... My cousin and best friend is gone. Of coarse they partied before....what teenager hasn't. Bottom line. Ur cousin gets to grow old....and mine doesn't get to see past 18. I hope he rots in prison thinking about all the pain he's put my family. STOP DRINKING AND DRIVING! ITS SELFISH! DON'T PUT INNOCENT LIVES IN DANGER!

Obviously, you didn't know your fav cousin well. If you had you might haave talked him out of driving in the middle of the night in unfamiliar territory while drunk. The bottom line is that he "CHOSE" to get behind the wheel and drive. That choice cost two young ladies their lives. He desreves to spend the rest of his living in a cell thinking about that choice.
