Why Popular Science is turning off comments:

"A politically motivated, decades-long war on expertise has eroded the popular consensus on a wide variety of scientifically validated topics. Everything, from evolution to the origins of climate change, is mistakenly up for grabs again. Scientific certainty is just another thing for two people to "debate" on television. And because comments sections tend to be a grotesque reflection of the media culture surrounding them, the cynical work of undermining bedrock scientific doctrine is now being done beneath our own stories, within a website devoted to championing science."

No Rubber Dicky, the Y2 didn't affect me one bit. After all, only we on the right understand the BS of the liberal media. I'm sure that it was liberals who were hiding under their beds. Those of us who watch Fox News knew better.
Now let me ask: when have any of my "scandals" been prove to be BS? By whom? You????
Now why don't we list the so-called scandals that you believe affect your life: Iraq, global warming, oil production, Koch brothers, religion......
And although you think these so-called scandals bother you, they haven't bothered me one bit! In fact, they haven't bothered most of us conservatives.
What does bother us is wasteful taxpayer money to buy votes. That bothers us. Zero has been the leader of this strategy for the last near five years. And even though it's likely the the affects will not bother us in our lifetime, we also understand what we are doing to Americans not even born yet. And like our parents and grandparents before us, it's up to us to hand down a better country to our children as did the people before we were brought onto this earth.
Yah, it's the right that can't be fooled by things like science or facts. Hey neat. Look at all of the Bibles and "Don't Tread on Me" flags going on in that Doomsday Preppers show. You guys invest your interests in solid things like hillbillies interpreting the Bible or FEMA Death Camps. You sure as hell were easy enough to fool when you voted for Bush twice.

What kind of world will we be leaving the younger generations if we allow global warming to confiscate more and more of our money every year? At what point do we stop if left up to environmentalists?

I know you don't follow me because you don't understand that nearly everything we own and purchase has an intrinsic cost because of environmental regulations, but it is there.

Just as I explained to you all the costs in my line of work. My employer doesn't reach deeper into his pocket to pay these tens of thousands of dollars every year for global warming. He has to pass those costs to our customers who in turn pass those costs to us as consumers. And guess what? The mechanics in the know tell me it's going to get much worse in the future.

The thing is that if we poured every American dollar towards pollution control and climate change, guess what? There will still be pollution and climate change. Man simply has no more control of these things than he has of stopping the sun from rising in the morning.

Yet no complaints of how your children's children's tax dollars will be paying for Bush's war. Give it a rest. It's because he's black and you guys are racists. Everybody, including yourselves have known this all along. Save the big speech about us always using the race card..blah, blah, blah. Like I said. You ain't fooling anyone. Every stupid claim you guys throw against the wall here in hopes it might stick is just blowing smoke out of your @sses to avoid the real facts of the matter. You don't like that "colored" family in the White House and you can't stand the idea of America being free for anyone to worship any god they choose, or none for that matter, unless it is Jesus Christ.
You might be able to make that claim if DumBama wasn't trying to lead us into Socialism or perhaps was a success as President. But that's not what's happening.

He is a Socialist that took over 1/6th of our private economy. He is a failure as the people in our country are more dependent on government than ever before. Less people working, median household incomes lower than when he took office, record number of poor people, and the list goes on and on.

You should pay attention to your leaders. Even the liberal politicians realize that the race card is a dead hand. It's like the boy that cried wolf. Nobody even pays attention to it anymore. Furthermore that fake guilt trip doesn't work on us conservatives.

I see. So your own agenda doesn't bother you. Got it. Shocking revelation. Hey truck driving weather man. Looks like the insurance companies, who are basing their models strictly on money, are adjusting those models in direct response to the global warming that is currently happening. Crazy seeing they have so much to gain from record setting hurricanes, droughts and flooding...right? Which fake rightwing scandal would you like me to disprove? There are just so many. Name one. IRS targets Tea Party? Oooh I know, Benghazi. Juicy. Name one. Bet you go for all those guns lost in Mexico...seeing it's about the only real one.
You people are like puppets. Democrat politicians say--you do.

Politicians say War on Women, and the sheep parrot it all over the internet. Politicians say Fake Scandals, and once again, the sheep parrot it all over the internet.

Every single one of DumBama's scandals are true. People died. He and his racist AG played dodge ball with each and every one of them.

You would look more intelligent if when some leftist politician makes a claim, you look into it before mindlessly repeating what he or she said.

Isn't it funny, that whatever the right wing accuses the left wing of doing, they are the ones actually doing it? Remember when they opposed Obamacare because it "put the government between you and your doctor"? How they want the government to keep it's hands off their healthcare? Of course, when they are in power, that's exactly what they do. These anti-abortion laws, whether it's requiring invasive ultrasounds or preventing medically-advised abortions, do exactly that. They put legal obstacles between the doctor and the patient in one of the most important, heart wrenching and life-altering decisions that a patient can face.

What business does the government have by telling doctor's how to do Their jobs? In what other field of medicine does the government require that are to be internally probed, as demanded by a legislator and not their doctor? Do you think women are stupid and need to be controlled by government.

How about them idiots that turned down the Violence Against Act? If you even have a women, I feel sorry for her.

More vote buying, it's just the uninformed voter fails to understand this.

Now why don't you show me where in the US Constitution the requirement is for the federal government to be involved in local and state criminal cases? I read the Constitution plenty of times, I've never seen this provision.

Much like hate crime laws that provide harsher sentencing for victims that are potential Democrat voters, this law does almost the exact same thing.

Our local and state courts can take care of themselves thank you. Some of us just happen to believe that the federal government need not control every aspect of our lives.

An abortion is not the most important, life altering, heart wrenching decision a patient can face; a heart transplant or kidney transplant is.

"If you want to keep your insurance plan--you can." Proven to be utter bull ship because most people get their coverage through their employer. Employers are dropping their coverage for their employees like flies. This is the first time in American history where people are "taxed" by the federal government for not buying something--especially something they don't even want.

Maybe when the Republicans regain power, they can tax those people who don't own firearms, or those who don't have X amount of their income in investments. How about those who don't contribute to donations to charity or religion? Let's tax all people who don't comply to a political agenda based on who is in power at the time!

All things that you have mentioned still brings me to my experienced conclusion that I do NOT trust the government to draw a bath.
Look at so called Social Security, USPS, Medicaid, Medicare, highway infrastructure, the IRS, the National Park Service Etc Etc.
I have NO problem with some of the Affordable Health Care issues such as doing away with pre-existing conditions, insurance across state lines, the youth being on a parents policy until age 26 & more BUT why must the Federal Government be in charge????? Answer, POWER & Control.
And WHY the IRS in control? An agency that does NOT submit to warrants & can & DOES consficate property with OUT court approval.
But then are the FACTS that approx 30,000,000 will still NOT be covered by insurance, there are doctors that will retire because of 'Affordable Health Care' that will possibly bankrupt this country, has CLEARLY NOT helped employment numbers & will raise taxes.
I could go on but IF this isn't enough, someone is sleeping under a bridge & smoking wonder weed

So let me make sure I got this right. The overwhelming majority of the scientific community is some secret Liberal ploy. The overwhelming majority of college professors are behind a commie Liberal ploy to indoctrinate America's youth. The overwhelming majority of the media is part of some Liberal scheme. The overwhelming majority of the work force is part of some socialist movement and looking for a free ride. The overwhelming majority of our servicemen are looked at as "freeloaders" looking for a "hand out". An overwhelming majority of our seniors are just sucking off the teat of Obama for a government freebie. An overwhelming majority of American voters were motivated by a free cell phone.

Hey "silent majority". You guys ever listen to just how f@cking stupid you sound to an overwhelming majority of not only this great nation, but the entire f@cking world?

So what you Tea Bagger rightwingers are all saying is...

"The government is afraid of the guns people have because they have to have control of the people at all times. Once you take away the guns, you can do anything to the people. You give them an inch and they take a mile. I believe we are slowly turning into a socialist government. The government is continually growing bigger and more powerful and the people need to prepare to defend themselves against government control"

How do you feel about our military? Do you trust that branch of our government?(They are the ones with nuclear weapons.)

Well, as an old fart, I think Social Security is one of the best things that ever happened. Working people no longer have to descend in to crushing poverty, just because they get old.

And I like Medicaid & Medicare, too. Do you really not see the value? Maybe you've been very healthy, so far. Lucky you.

You have problems with Ike's Interstate Highway System??? You don't think our roads are vital to our economic health?

And I like the National Parks. I think it's a wonderful idea to try to preserve a few natural spaces.

But, maybe you're right. When old people get sick, let them die. Privatize the Interstate System, and have tolls every half mile or so. Tear down the National Parks, and put up trailer parks instead.

Better?

Of course you think SS is one of the best things that ever happened. You get much more back than you paid in. That's why the system is going broke. Then there is Medicaid speaking of broke. It's a system that is breaking states; one of the largest expenditures causing many to be in red ink.

Medicare? Yet another program that costs more than we can afford. And yet another program that you will likely get back much more than you paid in. For crying out loud, a major surgery can cost around $50,000. That's only one procedure. How many procedures does a retired person have before they pass away at the average age of 78 years old?
