HE MOST LIKELY HAD HIS SERVICE WEAPON IN HIS HAND WHEN HE ENCOUNTERED THE DOG...THEREFOR, RE-HOLSTERING HIS GUN TO GRAB HIS TASER WAS NOT EVEN POSSIBLE BEFORE GETTING BIT. AGAIN, HE DID WHAT HE NEEDED TO DO.
untrue he could have used his ninja skills and pulled out a dog treat and petted mans best friend THAT WAS LEFT OUTSIDE

I think the officer did the right thing. If a dog that I didn,t know came running toward me I would shoot it also.I hope the officer keeps his job.The protesters can eat themselves.

WHY ARE YOU SCREAMING?!?! Thanks for calling me ignorant as well, very nice.

This guy at least needs to retrain.

It's like the officer in Medina that responded not only to the wrong house, but shot the family dog after the first shot 2 more times as it was running away.

I am not for firing, or any of that. I do not know why you are attacking me. I just think these officers should have more training when it comes to dealing with dogs while on calls, so this doesn't happen again. Have official protocol for these situations.

I don't blame the family for being upset, but asking for an officer to be removed over a dog is a bit insane.

Try being a cop for a day. Cry that this officer should have received better training. Cry that he could've used "non-lethal" force on this dog. Cry that he should have known these dogs were not vicious.....and while you are doing all of this....I dare you to go to someone's house, enter into the backyard, and have a dog lunge at you showing teeth, and tell me that YOU would fire a warning shot into a tree....OR better yet, HOLSTER your weapon, take out your taser and tase the dog. Or reach for that pepper spray that you rarely use because it could get in your fellow officers eyes and in fact put you at more risk than not using it....and tell me that what Officer Morales did was wrong.
I stand behind Officer Morales and what he did 100%. I do not know Officer Morales, but I come from a strong background in Law Enforcement. Everyone is so quick to judge this officer. A man who puts on the blue uniform, pins on his badge, buckles his duty belt that holds his firearm and handcuffs, and goes out into the streets to protect who? YOU! The ungrateful citizen. Officer Morales goes to work every day HOPING he will get to return home at the end of his shift alive and in one piece. What he encountered on this day, NOBODY will ever understand except Officer Morales.
Dr. Cooke should be charged for misuse of emergency services by the City of Westlake. 4 FALSE Alarms in 3 months? Completely unacceptable. He should be the one held responsible for the death of his dog.
Don't jump and criticize the officer for his actions. There is not one single person that reads this post that can honestly say that when a dog charges them, they reach in their pocket and grab a milk bone to calm the dog down. No, they panic, they get scared, and they usually get bit. Officer Morales did what he felt his only option was, and he shot and killed an attacker. That dog was not coming up to lick his hand, he was coming up to attack.
Officer Morales, if you read this post, I say to you, and the rest of the WPD, Good Job. Thank you for your years of service, and continue on with a job well done. You deserve a pat on the back, not for killing a dog, but for having the courage to go out there and protect Joe Citizen from the fate of Crime.
DO NOT FIRE OFFICER MORALES FOR DOING HIS JOB!!!!!!
Thank you Westlake PD. Stay safe
An honest, well written post!..and I agree. It seems to be so easy for people to jump right in and make fast judgement when they weren't even there! Funny how people can do so...that is until they are faced with the same situation...and that stuff about labs are so sweet and family dogs? Yes they are indeed..most of them perhaps, it depends. Any dog can be vicious..any breed depending on the situation at hand and the training, and the care given to the dog. My friend in Streetsboro had to have their black lab put down because it was so vicious and bit the neighbors 7 year old kid! The story goes no one seemed to know why! I can say this the bite was horrible and I am sure the family wished they had shot the dog as he was mauling their son!

Wonder what all these loud mouths would have said had the dog bitten him. What kind of non-deadly force is Karen Fike talking? Very interesting statement. These people need to put themseleves in an officers shoes. Bet it would be a different story then. Wake up people. If I was the police I would never go to this home on an alarm drop again.

To all of you people that support the officer, thank you. We could use all the support we can get.
Also to all the animal lover, I agree. I am also an animal lover. I have three German Shepards. They are like family to us.
Now to the point. As an officer we are trained to exercise every option possible before having to use deadly force. The officer in question should have and could have used his taser. HOWEVER, the officer should NOT be fired. It was a split second decision, and although the outcome wasn't what we hoped it would be, sometimes it just happens that way. Im sure he feels terrible, and as far as im concerned, the media and public is punishing him enough.

He has tarnished the image and the badge? I presume you received Officer of the year, right? No, you probably are just an ordinary citizen whose only encounter with the police was when they were "harassing" you because you were speeding or doing some other unlawful act.

Obviously, you wouldn't post your real name on here, because then people would know how ridiculous you are, but remember this...

"It's always better to allow someone to think
that you are a complete moron than to open your
mouth and prove it to them"

Maybe you should have just clicked the little x in the upper right corner of your screen before you posted this nonsense

It looks like all 25 of you had a fun time at your little get together or protest or whatever. I hope you feel better now that you got to yell at the Chief demanding things that will never happen. Too bad the Chief didn't start yelling demands back at you, like "Lock up your dogs" "Take responsibility for your pets."

Your just as ignorant as the people that you are attacking. We don't have out weapons drawn as we report to any scene unless we have reports of shots fired. Until you are an officer, don't comment on how we approach our jobs.
I understand that you want to defend the officer, but your going about it in the wrong way.

Listen tough guy. I worked in one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in Cincinnati for two years in law enforcement and we came across some vicious dogs that we used common since to handle. These suburban puke cops that dont do anything but chase kids through yards and shoot tax payers pets need a wake up call. They think they are a bunch of tough guys with badges, when really all they do is drive around in their nice uniforms looking for fights to pick. I hope this officer Morales enjoyed popping his cherry, since hunting dogs is the only chance he will ever get to fire his weapon the job. This guy has to be the biggest puss known to man, send him to the hood to work for a little, and watch him go AWOL. Sorry for your loss Dr. Cook

I work with dogs every day, I do love them all haven't met one yet that I didn't love. That said size does not matter when dealing with a dog they all have teeth (well almost all lol)! I do not believe labs are biters but none of us were there. I do not think the cop should be fired, but something should be done. I do not understand though why it is ok to arm the mail carriers with pepper spray and when people bitch about the cop and the fact that he could have used other options , why others get so bent out of shape. Also to those that keep saying put on a uniform or go to the academy, lets try to remember these men and women signed up for the job so quit trying to make people feel guilty about that or their opinions!!!

Ha. This is funny right here. By the tone of your post I am pretty confident that you weren't a cop. I have no doubt that you wanted to be but sadly, it was not to be. SAYING that you were a cop brings you no credibility my friend. Just settle down and quit using steroids....or whatever is making you rage.

I couldn't have said it better myself. I wholeheartedly agree. Thank you. God bless Westlake policemen and peace officers all over the country. Oh and yeah, LOCK UP YOUR DOGS!!!! This homeowner is at fault. His dog set off the burglar alarm numerous times. That's asking for trouble. You police haters out there...I hope you never need one because they always put their own life at risk for you. And most of you's don't deserve it.
