Im sorry but I do not agree with you. I bank on the cops making a right decision not a quick one. These men and women are trained to use deadly force only when life is at risk. If this officer thought his life was at risk with an 8 year old lab then I dont want to be around him when things get really ugly for him to make another quick decision. Thx for your time

Crazy chicks like you amuse me. You think by name calling and swearing you somehow get your point across but, in actuality, all you do is prove my point that you are a crazy broad. I try to see your point but I am so busy laughing, it is lost on me. Don't get me wrong, I do get enjoyment out of reading your 5th grade level posts but I am concerned about your mental health. This hatred you have for the police is not healthy. You know what is great? Even though you hate the cops so much, when you need them they will still be there to help you.
I don't know if this is a PMS issue or a a serious imbalance but again, I implore you to get the help you need. If not for yourself, for your neighbors that have to put up with you. Good luck and if I can do anything to help you, please don't hesitate to ask.
Do me a favor loser ~ say that to my face. As for your 5th grade level I will have you know I am a Yale student. In case your ignorant, pathetic self does not know what Yale is it is a college. Do you know what that is trailer trash?

Hey Daisy - Go back to school before you dare reply to me you "moran." People like you make me literally sick to my stomach.
I pray I never need a cop either. I take care of my own problems my own way. I do not ever need these overpaid bullies to do anything for me.

It's unfortunate that this police officer didn't feel that he could use non-lethal force...however, it is the pet owner's responsibility to secure his pets--especially since they'd set off the burglar alarm 3 times prior to this sad incident.
Not only has the pet owner NOT taken responbility for his pets, but he has not taken responsiblity for wasting your (and my) tax dollars on police responses to a non-emergency.
Have you not read the story??? The dog was on HIS property in his backyard! Are all of you people trying to say that dog's can no longer be in their own backyard's without fear of some trigger happy, bully cop shooting him/her? Come on! The dog was NOT in the middle of the road, on private property, or someplace he did not belong. It is a sad day when I no longer feel safe keeping my dog outside because morons like this cop, and his supporters, feel it is a justifiable MURDER if the dog is outside. Again, he was in his FENCED IN BACKYARD! Do you think this poor dog knew he was setting off a burglar alarm? Do you think he had evil ulterior motives? He was setting the cop up I suppose. What a smart dog!
Bottom line ~ if he was anyone else pet then it would be a different story.
God help us if there are really this many bad cops and supporters of bad cops.

I support the officer. I own labs and love them dearly but I know they are able to attack and harm if they feel you dont belong there. This was unfortunate but its a dog. Had there been an intruder and the owner was at risk and the dog had done the same thing would you felt it was justified to save the human? Everone is good at passing judgement when they aren't the ones making those decisions. They tried to help the dog.

You know what's great about the internet? Anybody can be anything. I highly doubt you are a student at Yale, but whatever. As far as "saying that to your face"....again with the 5th grade mentality. Meet me behind the gas station after school. Look, we all know how tough you are, OK. Just stop with this. Every post you make is more and more amusing to me.

I don't think it is just cops now. You are a sociopath that can't relate to anyone, except dogs. I guess if you want to meet behind the gas station I'm game....more to see what you look like. I am picturing a sun dress, rain boots, crazy hair, and a shopping cart. I could be wrong though.

"Police Chief Richard Walling responded. "I asked him, he said he didn't remember that, he didn't remember that this house had dogs, the houses look the same to him.""
thats what I want to hear from a cop, that they cant tell a house apart from another.
-Get cruser stolen-, check
-Kill a dog-, check
-Admit that all the homes on your beat look the same- I want to be a westlake police officer, how would you ever get fired?

Pet's Death Impacts Many

This past week, the media has covered a regrettable incident that took place in Westlake. It involved an on-duty police officer that resulted in the death of a family dog. On March 6th, a Westlake officer responded to a home security system, and fatally shot Callaway, an eight year old yellow Labrador. The patrolman maintains that he was threatened by a charging dog and fired his weapon in defense.

I am deeply saddened by this family's loss and suffering. I have provided this family's professional pet services for many years, and enjoyed a special bond with Callaway. If I could speak to Callaway, I would say:

“If I could bring you back, I would in a heartbeat, but I can't. I am so sorry that you are no longer with us, but I can say for sure that you are with some other angels that are loved and missed each day. Your life and story have touched so many people. Your brought the out best and sadly, at the end, the worst from people. Hundreds of area pet-lovers and citizens joined together at Westlake City Hall, in your honor and memory. However, misinformation, half-truths, spins, and speculation have attempted to diminish you, your family and animal advocates.

I will gladly defend you as you may have defended your home, and will hold you close to my heart as your own family continues to do.

Allow me the honor to speak for you, Callaway. I feel it is time to move ahead, to learn from this heart-wrenching and confusing experience. We need time to heal, to speak truthfully, to ensure that no other family has to experience this type of painful loss.

As we move forward in our lives and discuss changes to our communities, let's make sure we are all on the same page: integrity, transparency, continuing education along with truthful and effective communication. Let's raise a paw of awareness for all.

Thank you, Callaway, for touching so many lives. Just as your family trained you well to sit, come, shake and stay, you certainly have touched my life and I have learned from you that everyday is a gift, and every gift is a blessing."

Forever Your Friend,

Nancy Brown

Yes Seriously! My parents have raised labs....3 of them to be exact. They had black lab, and he was extremely territorial and protective, as any dog SHOULD be. They now have another black lab and a yellow lab. BOTH are very territorial and protective...and if the YELLOW lab went running after someone full speed ahead, he would be a threat to ANYONE standing in his way that does not know him. He probably wouldn't hurt anyone, but, i would never expect you or anyone else to know this.

Use a Taser? If you read ALL the posts, you would see that Spec explains in great detail why a taser was not an option. It wouldn't have worked, as both probes have to go into the subject, and with a dog, there is not enough mass on the body of a dog coming straight at you to deploy a taser. Please, educate yourself about the "Options" Ofc. Morales had before commenting.

I wish a family pet had not been shot that day either, as I know the heartache it has caused the Cooke Family. However, Dr. Cooke has to take some level of responsibility here as well. Had he done his part and fixed his alarm, and secured the dogs inside of the house, this would have never happened.

Also, if someone DID try to break into his house, and the dogs came outside and bit the "burglar"...then that Burglar could actually sue Dr. Cooke, and WIN.

So, to all of you people asking for the resignation and termination of this officer...Ask Dr. Cooke why he put this Officer and the rest of the department in harms way by not doing his part to secure his "castle". A dog did not need to die that day, but the officers shouldn't have been called to his house, either.

Kelly....feel free to not respond. I have heard enough of your ignorant comments. You have no idea what you are talking about, so please, stay off my thread

I am utterly disgusted with Dick Goddard joining the protest against Officer Morales in Westlake. I have always been a loyal Fox 8 viewer, but now I will never watch again.

Officer Morales was responding to an alarm in that house and unless you have ever walked in a Police Officer's shoes, you don't have any right to judge their decisions. These Officers put their lives on the line every day as every day heroes, to protect us and when a mistake is made, you want him fired?? How about the next time Dick Goddard give us an incorrect weather report, he gets fired??

I am in full support of Officer Morales and the Westake Police Department....you Dick Goddard not so much!

STUPID PEOPLE..... as soon as you hook a ALARM to the phone lines you are giving the police PERMISSION to enter the property and 1.99 spent on a BEWARE OF DOG sign might have warned the police of a loose dog ....spare me the whining about the police being called there 4 times there is 12,000 houses in westlake nobodys memory is that good .... oh wait he could have used a taser ....so a taser in one hand to shoot a dog and a gun in the other in case a armed burglar was near by ... this whole chain of events started when the homeowner left his door open and ended at the vet that the officers took the wounded dog to (the dog some are claiming the police MURDERED on purpose)
