[quote] It has already been determined that the gambling debts and home foreclosure are unsubstantiated rumors - probably started by the killer(s).
Good. I do feel for his family but to cry racism right away is an outrage. Perhaps he was murdered -most people think he was - who says a white person killed him? Seems to me that alot of white people liked him - especially if he was elected mayor of a predominately white town.

I wonder if the casino had video of him leaving...was he alone? Has his opponent in the mayor's race been questioned? Was it a heated election?

This was NOT a racial crime! Wash was elected mayor by the majority of votes, in a town that is 80% Black!! The chief deputy with the sheriff's department who is also a very close friend of the Washington is black. So people please THINK before you start judging and screaming RACE!!!
I sincerely hope it was not a racially motivated crime. I do not live in a dream world but it's not fair to cry racism every time something negative happens. In my opinion, it discounts the severity of this crime - if in fact it is a crime - Mr. Washington was apparently getting along fine with his white constituents.

I think the main problem is Washington's children, who live out of Louisiana, they WANT this to be racial! They didn't give tony mancuso time to pull the cell phone records or anything. It's like they are enjoying their "15 minutes". This wasn't racial, I do think he was murdered, but by someone he knew. Time will tell.
It appears that way doesn't it? They are shouting about hate crimes and racism when they should be mourning the death of their father and allowing the investigation to take place without making it a media circus.

I believe it was someone he knew and trusted for him to get out and talk to them. I do believe that someone pushed the gun to his chest and he was afraid to move. I am not sure if it was racially motivated or an envious act. The town is 80% white not black, understood.

The children are not the problem. They know that you must be aggressive in Louisiana in order to get justice. This is no illusion of racism but there is a disillusionment that it does not exist. It is not blatant but implied. We must fight harder for justice and thoroughness. My family went through this when my uncle was murdered. You really need to understand that we are not color blind and free of stereotypes. They are learned and hard as hell to get rid of. The family has every right to be concerned and skeptical. No they don't live in Louisiana anymore but they did. Therefore they know what can happen.

First off, I live here in Calcasieu Parish. I voted for the Sheriff last election, and plan to do it again next election. I too have read all the news stories related to this incident. I have complete faith in the Sheriff and the Coroner. I trust they are doing everything they can to get to the bottom of this case. Although it may not initially look like a suicide, I believe that if Mr. Washington’s family continues to dig, I think they will eventually end up with egg on their face. Despite everyone’s ravings about the wonderful man he is, everyone has skeletons in his closet. I just hope and pray that the family doesn’t regret their decision to call in the New Black Panthers, and every other organization to spin this whole sad occurrence into a “racist conspiracy”. Please let the man rest in peace before the Police find something you wish they hadn’t.

I have sat here and read more and more of these postings. I did not know the racial make up of Westlake nor the type of area the mayor was found in. Now while I still don't believe the man did himself; The killer did not have to be white.

Just incase some people do not understand, most of the people here are white and we voted him into this office of the mayor for the city of westlake, over a white man!

For those people that are not from here and may not understand, yes West Lake is mostly white, these are the same people that voted him into this office.

Margyjane's statement is flawed. We're 80% WHITE in Westlake, but Gerald was a MAN who could move people, no matter the race. If you had known him, you would understand. His death was tragic and we may never know the truth. I won't go into local CSI procedures, but unless someone comes forward, the investigation is at a dead end.
