Hopefully this museum will teach the public to respect the danger that LONG ISLANDS BRAVEST face everyday. We are the true HEROES of the Island, and this would be a great place to show everybody what we do when they are home sleeping safely in their beds at night.
Maybe then the cheap taxpayers would cough up a few pennies of their own to put towards this project to show some gratitude for once.

Listen to you! You are joking...right? "Long Islands Bravest", "Heroes of the Island"? Get over it, you arent a hero. I volunteer to and don't consider myself a hero. I do it because I like to, and I like to help others. I enjoy it. I don't need to label myself as a "hero".

I also see that you make a mention about what we do while the public is home sleeping safely. As if you're looking for some sort of commendation for getting out of bed to go on calls while everyone is sleeping. Well, its part of the job. Its 24-7. Its expected. You signed up for it, so nobody is going to feel bad for you. It's volunteer, you dont have to do it. If you find yourself to be so special because you get out of bed in the middle of the night, maybe you should re-think the real reason why you joined. Why did you join in the first place? Nobody is forced to volunteer in the fire dept.

As for the "cheap taxpayers"...thats just wrong. You know this economy went down the crapper adn taxes are rediculous on the island. You know as well as I do that the vollunteer fire depts. get alot more than we need. All the perks you want. Free dinners, drinks, fancy trucks, fully loaded rec rooms, service awards...etc. You're talking like we're a poorly funded organization and the tax payers are too "cheap" to "cough up a few pennies". Lets face reality, we dont need half the budget we use out there. If anything the taxes should be cut...thats how you give back to the community! Remember, you pay the taxes too!

Its ashame you have to write something like that on here. You're the reason why tax payers hate us. Instead of the public viewing us as "the bravest", the view us as a bunch of selfish money spending drunks. I'll ask again...why do you volunteer???

Do me a favor, next time put a disclaimer at the bottom of your post that you speak for yourself and not all of us. It's embarrassing.

Kid, I've posted this to you before, do the Brotherhood a favor and drop the 'hero' attitude. The heroes are those Brothers who have gone "above and beyond." Also, look up the word 'humility' and try exercising it.

You want to see a true Long Island hero? Check the story about Lt. Michael Murphy ( http://www.newsday.com/news/local/suffolk/ny-... ) or any other Medal of Honor recipient ( http://www.cmohs.org/ ).

I do the job because it's who I am. It's in my nature to try to help someone who needs it. And the only thanks I need are a handshake from a Brother or the resident after we've done our job. I don't have to remind them that we get up when they are sleeping. I just hope they are sleeping soundly knowing that there are people who will get up when needed to respond.

Also, based on what I concieve is your level of maturity (or immaturity) I doubt whether you are one of the taxpayers who pay for us to provide these services.

Be that as it may, as a Brother remember to "Stay low, Stay safe".

"But there ain't no medals on my chest, a**holes,'cause I ain't no hero. I'm a fireman. We're not in the business of making heroes here." - Tommy Gavin on "Rescue Me"

SmokeEatingFatso, why not admit that you are a big zero in the eyes of real hero's. Go pin another budwiser beer cap on your chest and look in a mirror. You are a boil on a true hero's arz.

Knowing what the Hogan's are doing with the old firehouse, the town in general (not just the fire dept) should have waived the $1,500 purchase cost.Should have let them have
it for $1 to keep things legal.$1,499 isn't going to offset most of costs - moving, restoration, converting to museum.
But...it's the principle of the thing. My guess, the Hogan's will spend $100,000 minimum by the time the new museum opens.
Just more
