The reason why I shop in Westerville is for the locally owned shops and small regional stores (downtown, roush hardware, half-price books, Marcs)-in spite of the traffic problems that are already there. If these stores are driven out of business and you get Walmart gridlock, there will be nothing unique about Westerville shopping anymore. The commissioners need to read the last 25 years of planning studies that show how Walmarts kill local businesses. Are they trying to drive local merchants out?

They need to clean up the South end of Westerville, putting a Walmart there will not do it. The ones who Okay it will not have to worry about the traffic. Why does it half to be a Walmart??

There is a new online discount sweeping the country this holiday season, called "Printapons" where a local store is featured every day with huge discount.

“Sadly it is what it is.”

It will mean huge tax revenues for the city. For this reason and this reason only it will be approved.

The traffic concerns are unfounded and this is just an excuse snobs use. Nobody from outside Westerville is going to drive to a mini WalMart when the Columbus or Delaware store has more merchandise. It will simply become another destination for in-town traffic who is out and about doing their errands at the grocery store etc. It will be great to have something like this we can reach from the backroads of our own neighborhoods we travel through anyway. Bravo!
You are WRONG. Most of us "Westerville snobs" have no intention of shopping there. There is no Walmart close by (must go to Easton or Lewis Center). We like it that way! It in convenient to I-270. Built it they will come! Traffic getting from I-270 up State street past that area is already Awful! Local businesses are already hurting due to all the new stuff up on Polaris/Maxtown. It will be a shame if it puts Roush out of business.

Trure - you are not snobs. You are hypocrites.

I wrote in my thesis 7 years ago that Wal-Mart would slowly destroy the middle class in the US by expanding their stores in the US. The reason why the US economy is in the situation it is in today is due to the expansion of Wal-Mart and job expansion to China. Wal-Mart has destroyed 1000s of small businesses. If US cities would of stop the expansion of Wal-Mart in the 1990s our country would not be in mess it is in now. Thank you Wal-Mart for weakening US economy, nearly bankrupting US government, promote jobs in going over to China, offering low paying job to Americans, and ripping other US businesses. I worked for US merchandiser that supplied goods to Wal-Mart and notice how Wal-Mart ripped off other US companies by slashing merchandiser profit margins to nearly nothing and establishing unrealistic dead line so that Wal-Mart could use against merchandisers to get a better discount. I salute Westerville Planning Commission for fighting over this.
