Why would the residents want a Wal-Mart? It should be voted by them. Consider the cheap and shoddy items they sell and very few items are made in the USA.
Unless Westerville has an excessive amount of obese people, that is where they would shop. Their clothing is geared for the obese, fat and people with no sense of style and design.(They used to have nice clothes.)
Their fruits and vegetables are also over-priced, and they stated they would have them lower priced for a healthy life-style.
You'd better make sure that the people get a chance to vote in that Target, Khols, JCPenny, and Macy's store to. Better yet, be sure that they get to vote on every single retail store that opens in the city limits. After all, Chinese goods are not exclusively sold by Walmart. That Mom and Pop store that most people would love to see prosper is also selling cheap Chinese goods (or at least, so-called "American" products that contain one or many Chinese made components).

Yeah.... that makes complete sense. Not!

This is a done deal. Welcome to Westerville, Wal-Mart! Glad you are here. Be a good neighbor and rest assured the people on that side of town will treat you just fine!

Too bad I hate to see Wal-Mart sprawl again. But Westerville will get what they deserve. The clueless people continue to have their heads in the sand always voting Republican, throwing money away on mega-churches, while waving their plastic made in China flags. They'll still whine and complain when all their stores are shut down as if it wasn't their fault. Westerville should be named Wonderville after Wonder Bread. Because the whole town is stale, tasteless, and very white.

Since Wal-Mart is the outlet store for the Chinese government, I think a lawyer from the People's Liberation Army should represent Wal-Mart in this legal case. China is going to name their next nuclear missile submarine the SS Wal-Mart in honor of the company that made their military expansion possible. Remember when Sam Walton was alive and they had "Made in America" signs all over Wal-Mart. Five minutes after he died, his children ripped down those signs and started buying 100% China. Did you know that the Chinese Military directly owns many of the factories that make goods for Wal-Mart? Shopping there is giving financial support to America's enemies.
Your pissed at the wrong people.
Walmart is the single largest private employer in the United States. So during this tough economic time when unemployment is at its highest, Walmart is still able to provide income to many American families as well as provide support in the communities that they are build in. Now if you buy a Proctor or Gambles product( Bounty, Pampers, Pantene, Tide, Mister Clean etc.) from Walmart or any other retail store, the US based company, P&G, will make money but the production lines of these products are not always in America. They are providing the majority of jobs in the factories to Canada, Mexico, Latin America, Europe, CHINA, Africa, Australia. So by you not shopping at Walmart you are hurting the actual lives of American workers while still buying your China made product from a "American" company that hires their workers outside of the United States.
SO maybe you should direct your anger to the major American corporations that are taking their production ad jobs outside of the US to save a couple of bucks. Just take a look at the car industry, the most American made car part by part is a Toyota Camry.

Good point. Just what is an "American" car anymore. The alternator is made in Mexico; the engine in China; the fan belt in Viet Nam, e.t.c.

Nobody is talking about the union interest in this issue. Kroger and Giant Eagle as well as other unions don't want Walmart in Westerville. The major anti Walmart websites are all UFCW union sites. Research Whois and you get K Street in DC.
Facebook Whack The Walmart in Westerville site originated by a guy from Miami.
My guess is that you will find Union operatives behind this. Another on the Facebook site... And a guy getting signatures... Kevin Gainer lives on the north end far from schlock and state... Has a axe to grind with all big business. Kevin does not understand that Walmart is a public company. Lots of owners of their stock.
But then Kevin is a self proclaimed communist! Ask him. He is camped out at the Westerville public library. What a bunch of B S.

So many think that it will help; however, it's interesting that the majority of Wal-Mart's products are actually made NOT in the USA. But, when you're looking for low-cost and low-quality products - walmart's the place. I'm for local products and services.

Shopper -- Why do you profess to be a shopper at Wal-mart if it's so dirty and horrible?
John -- "Westerville needs to keep its little stores"? What little stores have been willing to go into that vacant center in the past 10 years? Have you seen them? I certainly haven't!

The Westerville Center is vacant because the developer or owner had denied tenants for over 5 years (quote) he has also only offered month to month leases. Would you move into a space with your business and pay to fix it up if it looked like a dump on a month to month lease?- thought not. Neither would anyone else. If it weren't so disgusting and run down - plenty of businesses would want to be there it is PRIME REALESTATE that is if the landlord didn't deny leases!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe you should do some research- Walmart forces American companies overseas... research Rubbermaid and then comment! Also while at research how much Walmart costs America since they barely pay their employees a livable wage and to buy food the employees must also apply for foodstamps and government aid. They also are famous for hiring only parttime with no health care benefits- who pays when someone with no health care has to go to the emergency room? You do.

more anti WM website talking points. Pro-union fiction. Is your name Kevin Whatshisname who hangs out at the Westerville Public Library? If you offer to buy my groceries you can shop where you please.

The cloths may be for fat people but sure as hell are not for disproportionatly tall like me. I am 6 foot 4 but my inseam is only 30 inches. All the shirts are for dwarfs and as you say fat dwarfs

Be careful what you wish for referendum people. If walmart is denied, I'm sure Hadler will be happy to fill the place with check cashing, pawn shops, strip clubs, tatoo parlors, international money laundering facilities i.e. "markets", and 2nd and 3rd hand stores. The best recourse is DON'T SHOP THERE.
I have more rspect for the above mentioned establishments than China Mart. A nuclear waste dump would be better than that rapacious treasonous company that exploits its workers, vendors and has horrible customer service. My advice to all people who despise Walmart is DONT SHOP THERE! look at Sears today from what it used to be . They went downhill rapidly by their lousy service to customers and the same will happen to Walmart in the future!
