Agreed that every first lady has her challenges.
My gripe was it was a slap in the face to the tax paying public. She went to fulfill no "first lady" duties, stayed in a five-star, posh resort, having to foot the bill of all of her staff and security at tax payer expense, and took government Air Force 2 at tax payer expense.
Most people accept that the first lady will make "good will" trips, where it is expected she make an official appearance for some cause. Michelle did not do this. Her only appearance was on the beach. If memory serves me, when they are on an official cause, they do not announce the fancy digs where they stay.
I disagree with a lot of the Obama policies. But that is me politically. Disagree with someone politically does not equal instant hate or racism, so if you were implying to sway the conversation off on a racial topic, think again.
I suspect that a big piece of the knee-jerk reaction to the First Lady is probably political. And while I haven't heard this particular from you, there are a number of folks on Topix who like to refer to the First Lady as an ape, or words to that effect. And I don't take that as a political statement.

But--it is interesting that a thread discussing what the State of Ohio spends on maintaining an empty Governor's Mansion, while our Republican Gov lives elsewhere, so quickly became a discussion of the expenses of Michelle Obama.

I am guessing that it pretty much costs the same regardless of whether it is occupied or not. Strickland voluntarily paid rent to cover his personal expenses. The real interesting information would be how much the state is paying over and above due to Kasich living in his own house.
And, for the record, I would imagine that the cost for a Presidential family vacation is roughly the same regardless of who is in the White House. Big expenses for security and transportation come with the position.
I guess all politicians should lead by example instead of telling us what to do, and how and when to do it. I don't know if I can even vote for a democrat, probably will just go indepenent, or based on the candidate I really feel is best for the job. Most politicians lie or don't tell the whole truth. Just look what Kasich did to us, or should I say tried to do. I guess we all showed him what we thought of his anti union propaganda.

That's because she is. She's a stereotypical battleaxe from the ghetto. Mean, nasty, rude, with the body proportions to match. That's why people don't like the ape and the WIC card purchased Cheerios she eats in the morning.

You know that she is mean, nasty and rude personally? You want to poke fun at my body proportions, too thin (like you know) and her body proportions; I'm not going to repeat your comments (like you know), and the first family is on WIC. I'm looking over my shoulder before I post, shhh, they're black, we must pull out our racist feelings. You know my feelings about Governor Kasich, I would never be as disrespectful. Foreign concept for you. Yes, I used the word foreign, much to your dismay, and I took a shower this morning.

First, as I said before I am pretty good when it comes to what my gut tells me. When her closet-gay C-student husband even says she's self-centered, that confirms what my instincts told me all along.

When people hold themselves out as being the best thing since sliced bread, but in reality are posers. And when libs insist that if no matter how many times they repeat what a genius this C-student is, if we don't fall lock step behind them and bow to the C-student genius then we must be racists ...... that's going to leave a bad taste in people's mouths.

My attitude in life is this, if these fools say they're something they're not, I have a right to use every weapon against them at my disposal, including Michelle's nasty body proportions, her nasty eating habits (she looks like a peastant feasting on free watermelon) and her generally nasty attitude.

I can't help it, that's the way I feel about that stupid pig.

Right policies-just what the doctor ordered- but wrong approach. He tried to jam it down people's throats without taking the time to educate them first.

They work for us. They are our employees. Being able to retire at age 48, and sitting on your arse for the next 40 some years on the taxpayer's dime is not a sustainable proposition.

My point was I don't necessarily agree with Obama nor Kasich. You beat up on the President and conveniently don't express your strong sentiments towards other politicians. Some of your "people" are retiring at 48 also. Please be equal opportunity.

Plenty of people still 30 years and out type retirement plans. Military in particular. I personally know a few Air Force retirees who were out by or before 50 on full retirement.

I am on call 24/7 and have been for several years. I worked other jobs before my current career that required 24/7 call. It's not some great sacrifice he is making. No one forced him to be president. He volunteered. Just like I accepted the on call part of my job.

No, that is were Enzyte and I differ. Race or creed are usually meaningless to me. I do respect the upbringing I had--quite traditional, Catholic, with a lot of eastern European values. If Enzyte looks back on his history, he will likely see a lot of falsehoods and racism against his family when they came here. Mine experienced it--could not speak the language, had strange cultural customs/traditions, etc.

If a person is an ass, they are an ass to me independent of what the look like or what they believe. Simply being black does not remove one's ability to be an ass, either. What Michelle did for that vacation was that of an arrogant, pompous ass.

But military people generally aren't paid that much. They take what they would have gotten paid and they theoretically stuff it in a retirement account for them. Union thugs want it both ways: They want high pay now, and they want to sit on their arses for 30 years like a bunch of welfare queens.

As stated before, if you confiscated everything owned by the 1% it would get you through less than a year. THERE SIMPLY ISN'T ENOUGH MONEY TO SUPPORT LEECHES ANYMORE.

I do agree with you on this one. Actually, my dad was a UAW member for 30 years--he died in the 80s. But I remember him when I was a teenager in the 70s complaining about how stupidly greedy the UAW had gotten at that time. He was literally refusing to go out on the strike line because he felt he was already compensated fairly and had adequate bennies--vackay, health/dental, etc. He actually LAUGHED at some of the guys--they were picketing, dressed poorly, open fires to warm hands, etc.-- but these guys were parking El Dorados and Lincolns two blocks down where no one could see them.

Well there's Warren Buffet claiming he could resolve the deficit.

I don't know about that. But I could care less what he has. I have what I have, I've done ok through my life, and most of what I see of this "99%" rant crap is nothing more than stupid class warfare and laziness.

You have an issue with the military? I have been retired for 16 years. VietNam, the first Gulf War and Bosnia. We military folks gave of ourselves so that you may have the freedoms to post your vile elements here!
What have you done?

Now, maybe as a woman, and a straight one at that, I am not the best judge, but it would seem as though, as First Ladies go, Michelle is one of the better looking. No Jackie Kennedy, perhaps, but Barbara Bush and Nancy Reagan were both clearly past their prime, Hillary stressed other assets, Laura Bush was simply forgettable. And Michelle's most typical face has a wide, Mary Tyler Moore-type smile. Seems to be relatively unflappable, all considered.

Do you just see mean, nasty and rude whenever you look at a black woman (or at least one who isn't of the Aunt Jemimah type)? Or think animal when a woman has upper arms that show that she works out?

What exactly is it? Because I don't get it.

Then we are good.
There is a great editorial in today's USA Today from an Iraqi War Vet.
I get a little defensive about my brothers and sisters in arms.
Have a great New Year!

Nothing that can be construed as vile. My opinion only!! My point is that there are a number of folks that take their freedoms for granted while bashing the military. My intent was not to offend OR pick a fight with you.
Mea culpa.
