Summit - Mayor 2013

The mayor's nephew is running village business. From the looks of it, all that the mayor can do and does do is make insulting remarks to everyone who disagrees with him. He tells people that they are "stupid" and directly insults them in other ways.
It's interesting that the village clerk admits to erasing the tape of the village meeting.
Mayor Joe may be able to run, but he can't run a village....

Are you not paying attention? Mayor Joe just recieved $604,000 in casino revenue sharing, possibly 1.4 million in NSP funding for new homes, over 2.5 million in CDBG funding for streets over the years, built a $14 million dollar Senior building, brings in businesses, decreased the tax levy, hired 4 new police officers in the last 2 years, and manages the finances so the Village is in the black. Plus he is endorsed by every union because he supports that type of loyalty.

And he does all this because he loves Summit. How can there be a better Mayor? Maybe he is telling the truth when he answers questions during meetings. You were there, maybe you can't handle the truth.

1)Joe loves "Summit"? Where can I buy that brand of liquor?
2)Joe DOESN'T ANSWER QUESTIONS. He just insults people. His nephew answers the questions.

Chester why don't you get out of town and run for mayor in your town if you think your so smart! See if they will pay you $80k for doing nothing and give you a vehicle and gas card. No one in town likes you...butt out and stop costing us money!

Perhaps we need to dig a little deeper in the mayor’s supposed financial wizardry.

Casino Revenue --- that money was awarded to several very needy municipalities. Joe claims a huge role in getting the funds for Summit, but when pressed “what would the Des Plaines mayor say about your role”, Joe said the Des Plaines mayor “wouldn’t know what he’s talking about”, i.e., outside sources are going to refute the mayor’s claim of significant influence in getting those funds. As for what the mayor is doing with those funds, would he care to ask the residents? No, instead,$100 checks are going out in the mail as a “refund” to residents’ bloated water bills. Wait a second, the biggest water payers in Summit are businesses ---but they aren’t getting checks! I wonder why….because businesses DON’T VOTE! Now that is one creative way to buy votes. These are going out a few weeks before the election, and hopefully residents aren’t fooled. Shame, shame.

New funding for homes….that’s County money. Attributing Joe to getting those funds is like saying Bill Wennington brought the Chicago Bulls championships in the 90’s by watching from the sidelines.

CDBG Funding --- all they have to do is fill out an application. After that, a strict Federal metric determines which streets get repaired and how much money is received. It’s good the mayor and his gang can fill out applications because they will be looking for new jobs in May.
Senior Housing --- a huge chunk of this came from Summit TIF dollars. Cash that should go to schools, parks, and the library; or as a reduction to Summit’s astronomical property tax bills. Summit residents are in the dark about TIFs because for years the administration has not been having annual public TIF meetings as REQUIRED BY LAW. Shame, shame.
Businesses – 16 years ago, at the start of Joe’s regime, there were more businesses than there are now...they are leaving even faster recently, i.e. the car wash, what about 63rd Street the business district is destitute. When businesses leave, they stop paying property taxes; who foots the bill? The residents!
Do those new officers speak Spanish? Creo que no. Joe doesn’t care about reaching out to Hispanics in a town of 64% Hispanics, and the vast majority of families with children are Hispanic. If someone in Summit doesn’t speak Spanish, they have a neighbor that does…and having more cops with those abilities would help everyone solve problems. Shame, shame.

Loyalty to Unions?
I’m sure Joey sleeps better at night knowing he is fully supported by the elevator constructors union. Seriously, though, can you name one glaring omission in his underwhelming list of union endorsements? DING DING DING, you got it, the firefighters/ambulance unions! The one union that matters the most (along with police!) in Summit! That’s because Joe wanted to move the department to Bridgeview, and get rid of ALL the Summit FD, because they didn’t meet the standards of the Bridgeview FD. The deal was concocted by the Bridgeview mayor and by the mayor’s nephew, BOTH who do NOT live in Summit. If you live in Summit, think about losing that experience… when the house is burning down, the new firefighters would need to pull up google maps to find the street? Summit can’t afford to lose that experience. Not to mention the mayor was quoted in the DVN estimating annual savings of $400k-500k, but when the numbers were checked, the savings were hovering around $200k. Where is the financial wizardry in that one??? The mayor can’t handle these decisions, so he leaves it to his nephew and a neighboring mayor, who by the way, has buried his own municipality in massive debt by buying a stadium and failing to pay for it. Apparently Ted Bojanowski and Jim Haan were asking the tough questions at those board meetings when this deal was underway…more than a year before deciding to run. Actually I heard Ted Jim and Mayra met at one of these meetings! They had the good sense to follow up on the mayor’s ridiculous ideas. Just think if these three hadn’t met, and the United Party may have not ever happened if the mayor was running a tight ship. Good to hear someone cares. For the administration…Shame, shame.
To hear of the mayor’s financial excellence brings feelings of nausea to anyone who has seen him in action. One area of concern is a dark shroud of mystery around 15-20% of Summit’s water bills. This amount is seen on the budget, but…no idea where it goes. The village is lowering a fraction of property taxes, but when they need more money, they can just dip into the water bills and raise the rates!!! The Chicago water increase is just a portion of the high rates. I’m sure when the United Party gets in there they will dig to the bottom of it. The treasurer cannot be trusted, especially when her friends are the auditors!
The mayor’s campaign bio doesn’t even mention if he got a college degree. Apparently being in the softball hall of fame qualifies you to run a $10 million municipality? And it is sorely debated whether or not the mayor’s nephew actually graduated from college. But when the mayor needed a village admin, he knew who to call! Who wouldn’t say yes to over 80k in salary plus several grand a year as a vehicle bonus! Yes Uncle Joey count me in!
The mayor’s campaign is ran by people who don’t live in town, and worked on by those who have received or are anticipating receiving jobs or other favors from the mayor and his gang. Pure and simple ugly Chicago politics. Apparently this new party has volunteers who care about Summit, who live in Summit, and are ready for a change! They also have REAL world credentials, licensed attorney, CPA, and working professionals…. the ticket is chock full of educated, talented, and involved people according to their bios (I found their site by googling “Summit United Party”). Raise my glass to these residents who care and finally have the guts to stand up for change!

It seems Cicero that your biased opinion discounts the fact that the Mayor has developed the realtionships to actually deliver on all of this. The Casino revenue sharing was Mayor Joe's idea initially and discussed in several Tribune articles dating back to 2004. The County could have chosen several other municipalities for NSP, but they chose Summit. And Joe actually brought some of the unions here to Summit, as well as initiated a union at 26th & Cal back when he worked for the County. Lastly, police are hired based on testing qualifications and nothing more.

It seems you are misinformed, and it would have been better to work with Mayor Joe than against him.

It is so scary reading all this. As a taxpayer i do care what it going on and if mayor Joe is paying his unqualified nephew, maybe we should all reconsider our vote. Maybe it is time he goes-the united party is also very nice and they are working hard going door to door in this cold weather.(Nice talking to them last weekend) I supported Joe for many years but i think its time we get new people in there and i hope the town agrees. Disappointed in Joe!

Interesting...police are hired based on testing..it would be nice to see Les Peterson results. That man is a joke. But it pays to be a friend of a friend I guess...I hope people vote to get Joe out and the new mayor gets rid of Les. It will be a good election.

Is there something wrong with Mayor Joe? Last nights board meeting he was limping and holding his side. He looks very sick and distant. I was told he lives in a nursing home out of town due to his health. If he is sick, he should tell the people of town and be honest with the taxpayers. Something is not right. Can he run for another term?
I think the original question was:
A- Mayor Joe's health?
B- Where does Mayor Joe live?
FACTS:
1. Bruce Koenig is the one who backed Silvio "Chick" Cataldo in a previous election and tried to undercut Mayor Joe by sending a recording to the Southtown.
2. Mayor Joe appointed Les Peterson without a background check knowing he lost $1,000,000 in Willow Springs and resigned from Morraine Valley College based on sexual harassment.
3. Chet resigned his appointment as Trustee when he claimed to live in Joes basement, lied to taxpayers.(No trust there).

When will the lies and corruptness stop?

some of these issues are very comical to me. 1st off if you drive by Mayor Joes home you will notice that the same lights are always on 24 hrs a day so the dog is doing a horrible job turning them off. 2nd, it is very very true that the 10 (TEN) POOREST towns in Cook County get that casino check, so god forbid if we somehow crawl out that hole what is Joe gonna say when we arent getting any money. 3rd, LES PETERSON was forced to resign from Moraine Valley due to he sexually predatory ways. The man attempted to become chief in Forest View but Forest View did a background check on him and called him on it. Naturally he ran away and asked Burt Odleson (Village of Summits polictically connected attorney) for help. Les then screwed up Willow Springs and we became so lucky to have him ruin our town. 4th, The Village of Summit has FOUR new Police Officers since 2007. In the same time span they have lost EIGHT!!!!! There is no Tactical Team like surrounding departments. The shifts are staffed to minimum manpower and the Village always cries broke. 5th, and this is a non issue but NO TIME EVER will a Police Department be required to be bilingual, im sorry but this is a melting pot of diversity but you live in the united states for so sooo long you could learn english like the generations of immigrants in the past. 6th, There are zero productive businesses in Summit excluding Portillos. Krispy Kreme has been vacant for YEARS!!!! Walgreens wanted to move to Summit and we said NO. Pollo Loco=CLOSED! All we have in Summit is Burrito Joints, Barber Shops and Bars...it is pathetic. 7th, will mayor Joe ever pave the alleys in the middle of town or is this just mainly done South of 63rd St. for votes????? Im sorry but Joe WAS good now Joe can barely take care of himself and realistically Ted Bojanowski is older then Joe and just as out there. I hope there is new blood with the Trustees they seem like good kids and maybe they can replace The Town DRUNK Steve Memishi, who last I checked was stumbling out of a bar and sleeping in his lawn. It is sad that this village has an agenda that is padded by crooks like Steve landek and Jeff Tobolski but it is what it is. All I know is that the ONLY MAYORAL CANDIDATE THAT IS GOING DOOR TO DOOR IS MIKE LONG. People who say Mike Long has burned bridges obviously have been on the wrong side of the law. SO what alot of people on here are saying is that since I screwed up and got arrested by Mike Long then obviously Mike Long is an asshole...that is pathetic. What is really pathetic is how a Newspaper owned by Senator Landek (DesPlaines Valley) publishes all these Mayor Joe articles but no one elses. Then again Mayor Joes campaign is being ran by the office of Senator Landek. I hope everyone who votes in our village puts their bullshit behind them and votes for the man that can hopefully turn the corner for Summit and not the same OLD bullshit that has hurt the town, the citizens, the tax payers, the fire and police departments for the last few years.

Well smart guy. The money and the senior home. That would all be there no matter who is mayor. He just happens to be in office when the county or federal govt gave the village that. We get the gambling boat money because of the agreement with the state and the casino. What business were brought in? Liquor establishments and barber shops don't count. Where are the big stores? The ones that bring in good revenue for the village? As far as the police. They have to be hired don't they. Because of retirement or whatever the reason. I'm sure it's still not enough. And word is those new guys have left or are thinking of leaving because the morale and the money just aren't there. Why stay when one can make more money do less work and not have to have a boss that looks for any reason to screw someone to feed his ego. Lets be real about the village finances also. Does he actually have anything to do with that. Ask anyone in the village. Not just the followers. They know who runs the village and its not joe. It used to be. But not anymore. And being a resident. How come when I go to his house to talk to him. Like people used to. He's never there. People are starting to think he doesn't even live in town anymore. Used to see him all over town with his dog. Haven't seen that in months. If he's sick or something else is wrong. Step down. Let some new blood take over Seems like summit had been stuck in a rut for a lot of years. It's time to dig out But I know how politics work
