Is anybody out there as fed up as I am with people blowing all the stop signs all over town? Not rolling through, BLOWING RIGHT BY w/o touching the brake pedal! This happens especially by the parks and when cars r going around the train. Although I comforted by knowing over by fed ex where there are NO KIDS WALKING we have complete police presence

I know these blogs are for venting frustrations but please don't blame the police. They can't be at all places at all times. Maybe this is an issue that can be addressed by the village board. Should speed bumps be installed around the ball fields at 107th & Menard? Should either 107th St or Menard Ave be made a one way street? That would certainly curtail some of the speeding that goes on. It may force more traffic to 109th but at least it would siphon some of it away from a children-congested area, especially during the summer months. I also think the police may find it easier to park on side streets perpendicular to 109th to catch scofflaws. Now they are pretty exposed sitting in the parking lot at 107th & Menard. Free opinions for the new villager board.

I see both sides of the argument here. Ive been living here well over 20 years and there is a stop sign right here that gets blown by 99 out of 100 cars every single day. Have not seen a ticket issued since the olmstein days. So yes the police cant be everywhere at once but after at least 10 years i think its fair to say there should have been a few traffic stops here. Ive even contacted Balderman back in the day about it but i didnt have a news crew with me so nothing got done. On the other side ive seen them patrolling around 107th & menard also so thats good. And I see them around Ridge Central in the am. So i think their presence is there and they arent lazy and some have kids playing at our parks too. Im sure they wouldnt want a car whizzing down the street near where their kid is playing. But speed bumps and one way streets won't happen ever.

They speed down Major and Massasoit from between 111th St to and from those beautiful apartments on 108th. Especially at night.

yeah I just threw the speed bump thing out there but from what I understand, public works doesn't want them-that's why they don't have one at that blind alley exit directly across from the doors of the library. That house is right up on the property line. Obviously one of the original houses in the ridge, but that is a dangerous sidewalk crossing because there is little time to react to a car coming out of the alley or the library parking lot.

There are other municipalities that have removable speed bumps on their streets - when the snows come they remove them for ease of plowing, and replace them in the spring. During the summer months, when there are many more pedestrians walking and kids playing, the bumps help to slow the traffic.

Put together a plan and a petition, have as many people sign it as you can, and present it at a village board meeting.

Don't just vent on here and do nothing - that's akin to not voting and then complaining about those than win the election. You can make a difference.

And...if there's a particular corner where the stop signs are continuously ignored, you can take video of drivers blowing through that sign, and take THAT to the village board. Believe me, something will be done when you present evidence to support your position.

Particular stop sign being ignored? Just pick one, they're ALL ignored! Even the one next to the police station! I visited a friend on 102nd street yesterday & HOLY CRAP the stop sign on that street was blown at least 40 times in the hour we were in the front yard. This post has opened my eyes. Need a crackdown.
