Forgotten Baseball Players from Class of 2011

Now that baseball season is winding down I feel it is an appropriate time to write this letter. The current Oak Lawn baseball team is having a successful season and I hope they keep it up. This letter is not about them. When I refer to the coaching staff in this letter it does not pertain to Baseball Coach Lyons. I do not know him and have never met him. He seems to be doing a good job filling in and has the current team playing well. I am writing this letter to talk about the senior class of 2011 at Oak Lawn High School. I am calling them the forgotten baseball players. The class of 2010, had a roster of only 15 players. They only had 18 players try out for the team, with three juniors from the class of 2011 getting cut. When you only have 18 players try out for your team, why would you cut anybody, especially talented juniors that you can continue to work with? That is something I will never understand. With that roster of 15 they also had two players that were strictly pitchers. When you take that into account they really had a roster of less than 15. In the game of baseball, from Little League all the way to the professional level, I have never seen where creating less competition made your team better. To deny kids opportunities when you have room on your roster is wrong. The class of 2011 had only had 3 seniors on the roster. They had many more talented players. I feel this letter is necessary for every parent that has kids coming into the school and to not forget the class of 2011. It is a part of the legacy of the current coaching staff and it should be a part of their resume. This letter is edited. It is edited because the full context of this is much longer and may not interest everyone. Anyone interested in viewing the entire letter may do so at .
