saw the article in the elm leaves about the pretty young lady who is now in charge of circulation at the RG library. I admire her ambition....but honestly and in reality.....is she going to stay long at the RG library.? None of the staff stay long because they do not receive any benefits and are paid so little.
it boggles my mind that the board wants to build a whole new building for the library.....but yet they will not have enough money to adequately pay a knowledgeable and committed staff.
actually to me, the staff is more important thant the building. The old staff at the RG library was totally useless...they were not the brightest people in the world and were borderline dementia patients....
I wonder how long this young lady will last? I hope she stays longer..I noticed that the young and bright staff always leave after a few months...probably for greener pastures.
The way this village and its organizations work...amaze me.... they are so not on top of things. They need some new blood for sure.

I heard the staff is paid min. wage 8.25 hour. it seems the board has been using the money to buy real estate.
#771 Nov 26, 2012
Now isnt that suspicious.....they ALWAYS buying real estate for the supposed New Library...but nothing ever comes ot it.
Also...arent a couple of the long time board members real estate agents? Didnt they make the commissions on these transactions.
If so...then there is an ethics problem.
There is something really suspicious about the way the library board runs things and they never get anywhere with the library.
I get this feeling also, that the village is somehow involved...like some sort of scam..where the village is always fighting the library...but in reality they are secretly profiting or help someone profit from the real estate transactions.
It is bizarre that after so many years, the library has zilch. While other neighboring towns are always improving their libraries. Look at Schiller Park..they now have a new computer room. Even FP library did some renovation.
But what does RG have ? Absolutely nothing. Something does not add up.
I really think this needs to be looked into and investigated along with the village. Something is not right.

i dont know anything about the trustees or the village
what I do know is that the people wo work at the library are the best. They are nice and harworking.
I would be lost without the library. I use their computers and they are the bst.
i have absolutely no complaints about the library.l

not only is the staff underpad, receive no benefits, have to deal with sometimes not pleaant public, but they are also told to perform janitorial duties at the libray. The trustees blew al that money on real estate, and try to squeeze each nikel and dime from the staff at the library.
walked by one day and heard one of the young people who work t the library....to not stand aroun and o nothing but dust the shelves.
no wonder the staff always quits...they are treated with no respect whatsoever.
All of the board memembers are old men...old male chauvinists.
i dont know how the staff can work there and deal with that board. I would walk out in a minute.
#774 Dec 5, 2012
maybe that is why the newest trustee, Susan quit the board...maybe the others asked that she wash the floor or clean the bathrooms.
Yea..I saw something like happen once. I think it was Mr. Stein. I remember he walked out after a board meeting and told the young man to go dust the shelves or clean the shelves.
Is that part of the job description for the library clerks? Dont they have a cleaning person?
man....that board is something else for sure. Seem to be out of touch. Like my way or the highway type of thing.

you should just roll the RG library into the FP libary, they know how to run a library.
#776 Dec 5, 2012
they should annex that library with the other libraries. it seems they don't have the money to pay the staff.
#777 Dec 5, 2012
They dont have money for squat. Cant even buy more books that the public wants...cant pay the staff to stay, cant pay for the hours to be open, and cant even pay for janitorial staff........
what are their goals? What do they plan to do now?
These men are a bunch of knuckleheads as well as the government in the village... they cant work together to come up with a plan....they only play games with each other.
People have given up on going to board meetings, given how everyone acts and their past results....why go when you know nothing will happen and there is no money.
The schiller park library is less attended than the RG library but yet they their board and the village have their act together.
What is the library boards vision of the future? What are their goals and plans?
time for a change.

I think the current director of the library is planning on leaving. Her name used to be on the RG library website. It no longer is....The board prbably is driving her away.
#779 Dec 6, 2012
if she leaves it will probably be the library board. it is a shame. it seems she did a lot for the library and for the comunity.

It is true. the problems are the same as they were 30 years ago.
they bought real estate property and did nothing with it. now, i hear they are collecting rent from the house on center st. and they put no tresspassing signs in the empty lot.
#783 Dec 12, 2012
yes, i was a long time resident and the entire board would have to leave. they are all with the village. one new member will not stay very long.
#784 Dec 12, 2012
someone said they were going to tear that house next to the empy lot down....that is the most stupidist thing I have ever heard....given that there is an old delapidated banquet hall on Grand Avenue which is a bigger lot and needs to be torn down.
I really wish that the village mayor and trustees would work together with the library board. But sadly it seems that they are competing against each other with stupid power plays that only backfire and create situations as the current one where the property was purchased before checking with the village.
How ridiculous... who are these peoople? Certainly not smart business people... dumb, dumb,
They seem to work isolated from everyone in a secretive way.
#785 Dec 14, 2012
power to the people... please remember that.
#786 Dec 16, 2012
So the library owns a piece of property that they can not use, probably have to pay taxes on it....etc..
In the meantime, no one will buy because of economy ....that land could have been developed for new housing which is also sorely needed in River Grove.
Why does the board do stuff without checking to see if the village would have a problem with it??? it would have saved a ton of money and hassle..... Why cant they get along on this issue?
How dumb? Everyone has an ego and these stupid power plays...in the meantime, the residents of River Grove are the ones who lose out the most...
It seems the board and the village dont care about the people but their ownselves... who is in charge, who has the power, etc...
how sad...by the time my grade schooler will be in High school, there still will be no library...
#787 Dec 16, 2012
there will never be a new library. The library spends the money and nothing to show for it.they also own the lot on grand avenue

Wow, the library in the Bowling Alley. Nice idea, but now the taxpayers get stiff on a $500,000.00 piece of property. Still an ideal place, this area is the most blighted part of River Grove. If the Village would have been asked the Library for assistances that might be OK. No, as per tradition, the Village (AKA Bart Smith), stuck their nose where it didn't belong. Why doesn't Bart tell the people by Rhodes School about the New Public Works uilding going up over there. There is a safety issue, children could and will be hurt. Nice going Bart. Oh Center Street, safer area than Grand Avenue, any day of the week. Why not put Public Works On Center Street. By the way the village would loss $60,000.00 in tax revenue, if this happens with the bowling alley and this would be put on the burden of local Taxpayers. Way to go Bart.
