you all talk about these things about center street not being zoned for a library and the grand avenue property as if it was some secret stuff. All of this is public knowledge. If any of you would have attnded the board meetings you would knowall of this is public and not being hiddn from anyone.

it is amazing all of you are ready to dirty someones reputation without going to meetings and getting facts.

if all you are so interested in th future of te libray why doesnt anyone see any of you at the board meetings.

no one seems to be involved in the meetings which is probably why no one is aware of the purchase of the properties. Yes, the docucments about the property are public.

most of these replies it seems people are afraid to attend. what they are afraid of poses a bigger question.

I think they just gave up...knwoing they wont get anywhere. Why go when things will never change and no one will listen or let anyone else have any voice. River Grove is a lost cause.

what do you mean the library did not post...it is on the library website under trstees...on their blog...check it out...

Like I say, quit your bitching and run. All you need to do is filed the right paperwork to get on the ballot. The libray did not even post a notice pertaining to this,as required by law. You may want to as John Batson, the Board Secretary why. A clue, there is only one person that can put your paperwork together and make sure its right. The village is even aware of this person, this person has have gotte people thrown off the ballot. A clue, Bar Smith paperwork is no good. But since the village determines who will be on the ballot, we are SOL. But please someone run. The person that can prepare paperwork is closer than you think.

god help us if you get on the board. You are nasty and very hostile...last thing the library needs.

what good does it even do to run for the trustee position at the library when you are the new guy on the board and the others do what they want. Doesnt seem like it even matters if no one embraces change...so what is the point. I know a lot of people just say so what what is the point.

why would anyone want to be on the library board at RG ? it is a dead end....it is like a sinking ship...like the hostess bakery company.... "no money, No support from the village, and seemingly no support from the residents of River Grove".

Dont think you can get on the board and automatically change things......
people are VERY comfortable with the status quo and resist change in a big way. Also they are very rigid and like the way they want things..which sometimes is not the best for all.

The property crossed the the street was purchased back in 1970's. The library is well managed when it comes to budget. However, when you have and EAV 15 cent per 100 dollars assessed, there is not a whole lot you can do. Unlike the Village, that has so many sources of income, but they are broke. But they keep uying land. Ask Mayor Smith why. As to why everything screwed up is that the villge is constantly sticking there nose where it does not belong. They should manage their own issues. As to the Library is considering shortening operating hours as save money and cost. They are not shutting there doors. As to residents not attending board meetings is because they are not interested. The meeting are open to the public not ADA accessible. At onetime, the meetings were in te now childrens area, should still be there. As to the Center Street property, one board member was heavily involved with.

Dont you know...when libraries start cutting hours,...then completely closing is not too far behind.

maybe it is a smart move...there are times when all i see is one or two people in the library...doesnt make sense just to be open for those folks

maybe if folks sense that their library is close to closing ....they may get involved.

There are 2 openings one is a vacancy and the 2nd opening is Michael Prokops - the board president- if he is on again he will have 6 year with a total of 38 years on the board. Maybe we can get 2 new people.

Good News. I hope this trustee helps the library. I dont think the river grove library has been doing too well for many years. It has been neglected. I think new blood on the board will hopefully rejuvenate this important resource that River Grove has. A good library reflects the interest that the village has for its residents and its future.
A good library involves community involvement not writing on blogs.

You need more than one new trustee to hopefullly make a change.

really...if they drove away this new trustee Susan,,,they will probably drive the others away also...
i think this is the time that they whould be reportd and have someone investigate their practices becaue honestly it sounds like something is not up to speed.
You have a point. The property and the books need to be investigated first.

why would anyone want to be on the librry board at RG?

It is like being on the staff of the Titanic. It is doomed..the library has a lot going against it.
Severe Lack of money, no support from the village, no real support or involvement from the community...(yea...they go use the library, but no one ever sees these people at board meetings). Lack of foresight or imaginative thinking and lack of teamwork and cooperation amont the board and the village.

what does the board do?...doesnt seem like much of anything. Their meetings are about approving which books to buy (more like what books not to buy)and who gets a whopping 3 cent raise...(which takes them six months to discuss and aprove)

Seriouly....who would want to be on the board....They are severely limited in what they can do.

Now the library has another big barrier and obstacle...the economy.

The RG library is lost cause. It wont be around for long.

what house are you talking about? The house was demolished. It is just an empty lot on Center Street. Go drive by and check it out.

There is no house...it was torn down. How can you rent an empty lot? for what?
