I do hope they will settle this budget crisis. A lot of people's
life are at stake. Health care workers and patients will suffer
the most due to political reasons that is no one wants to
take the responsibility of fixing goverment waste and
corruption. Everything boils down to political gain and
excesses. I do hope that the commisioners will agree to some compromise.

After only 7 years in Cook County, I moved to DuPage County in June of 2007. Welcome to your new county, and let's hope we don't have any of this crap going on out here.

Why do they always have to cut Health Care workers ? How about cutting some of the Forest Preserve workers, what do they actually do ? and in the winter ? How about some of the Sheriff's I live in Oak Park we do not need County Sheriff's patroling in Oak Park, or any other commuinity that has a police dept., and the 1100 new workers why are they still even being considered for employment with this budget problem ? Hey here is an idea, haw about salary reductions for all you over paid do nothing clowns ?

President Stroger,
People will not support a tax increase until you prove that we are getting value for every dollar that you get from us. I do not want to continue to support the Todd Stroger Friends and Family Employeement Plan. The only thing I get from Cook County is a tax bill twice a year and the occasional jury duty summons.

Won't happen - the democratic sheep will only vote for whomever the machine puts in front of them. Until they are willing to cross party lines, nothing will get done. Republicans have almost no say in Cook county, the best they can do is muck things up a bit and slow down the corruption.

I too experienced your joy over five years ago...where I live in a community in DuPage that PURPOSELY hasn't increase homeowner property taxes in order to have a more ecomically stable community...

I work for ccsd, we hear the cuts and see them but they never cut the programs that don't work and they cut ones that do.your new sheriff example lie to federal judge about jail problems, cut house arrest but keep boot camp, womens justice services, day reporting programs that allow them collect money for nothing these inmates wont do the right thing out of jail just game for courts and politicians.

Think again.
Schillerstrom and his lackeys have played the same kinds of tricks as Stroger. Here's what they did-
They threatened to cut public safety in the budget, Sheriff, State's Attorney, etc., unless they got an increase in the sales tax. They could have made other cuts, but didn't. No one wants less police protection and they know that.
That's why the sales tax was just increased in DuPage.

Stroger is doing the same thing, not cutting the BS in the budget and then threatening across the board cuts, including cuts to essential services, to balance it. It is a con game. Property taxes have not been increased by Cook County in over 12 years. So don't think that DuPage is any better than Cook.

After crunching numbers for a few months, I'm estimating I'll save about 12% of what its cost me to live in crook, and I rent, so property taxes are included in that.

I can't say there's any one reason for it, but ever since lil' stroger took over for daddy I've had a bad vibe about staying here. Add in the never-ending investigations at city hall, our governors heading for jail one after the other and the clear fact that it is all going to get a lot worse before it gets better, and I decided to begin making moves to leave the state. But I have to get out of crook asap so I can save enough to actually leave!

None of us in Illinois will be free of crook county's influence until we leave the most corrput state in the nation and I think we sadly know and accept this.

It's simple to fix the budget in Cook County. Get rid of all of Todd Stroger's relatives and friends, cut the allowance, special interests, and all extras from the other board members salaries, and eliminate anything but bare bones on administrative issues. The place not to cut is on Firefighters and services for the people of Cook County. There shouldn't be a standoff; there should be a PURGE!! If they can't stick to a budget, then THEY should go before any taxes go up or any more stupid ideas like raising plates for Cook County residents. Everyone else gets fired........fire them!! The last straw was John Kass' article and video about the COOK COUNTY BUDGET DIRECTOR and his essential SHOWER!! Who do they think they are fooling??? People are out of jobs, losing their homes, etc., they don't have the money or the patience to take any more of this baloney. Trim the fat.....trim the board and get rid of their relatives, friends and other special interests. They are supposed to be the servants of the people........the people are certainly not the servants of these extravagant blowhards who truly belong back in kindergarten where they would have gotten beaten up the playground for being the wusses they really are!!
