I personally believe that AMSA has a very high curriculum and is doing fairly successful. Just because a teacher expresses his or her opinion on the fact that the students at AMSA do not have any free time (recess, 8th grade privlege etc) doesnt mean that the teacher should be fired. I know for a fact, as a member of the AMSA community, that all of the students agree with this teacher and so does most of the AMSA faculty, including the Dean of Students. Yes, AMSA has had some "tough times" and dissaggreements but the teacher should be praised by the AMSA communtity and especially the students. I think that it was very thoughtful of the teacher to stick up for the AMSA students and I definately appreciate his effort and agree with him about this matter.

It's called ADVANCED Science & Math. The word "advanced" itself is very clear that the curriculum will be more challenging. The special need children should just stay in a regular public school.

I am shocked to read Kathy's post not for reasons of content but for the many grammatical errors, lost punctuation and lack of form.

In an educational forum such as this, anyone who publishes his words becomes a teacher and thus should be more careful of the construct of each sentence.

Since this is a Charter School the parents and students chose to be there. This teacher was likely fired due to the manner in which he chose to erudite; there is an appropriate chain of course.

Personally, I do not like or support charter schools because as a community we should be striving to improve our public school. Not diminish it.

Further, a close colleague was hired for an administrative position at that school. I was told horrific stories about the lack of care and organization for special education in multiple cases. There was a serious waste of classroom time. This school, it appears, was aiming only for high scores in standardized testing; very little in high level thinking, the whole child and an administration and board who had no use or desire for my colleague's ideas and opinions.

A pity.
