Not a good place for a traffic stop; the officer should have directed the driver to pull onto the side road that runs next to St. Joseph's. It looks like the stop took place right in front of the school. Busy road and a tight fit for cars to pass; there is no breakdown lane or room to pull over. It is terrible that the officer was hit and I hope he is not seriously hurt and has a speedy recovery, but I think there are obviously serious safety concerns that need to be addressed at the West Warwick Police Department in regard to traffic stop safety.

Not sure why Michigan City, IN came up as my location, I live in West Warwick and work in Pawtucket.

I have read on other websites that the officer was working a traffic detail and was stopping traffic when he was struck. If that is the case, then my comments above obviously do not apply to this situation. Again, I wish him a speedy recovery. The news media needs to get their story correct; was he conducting a traffic stop or working a traffic detail?

We pray that he will be ok.. It is a tough job and it just goes to show that it can happen at any time to anyone.. We love our police Dept in West Warwick and we think they do an outstanding job.
The officer will be in our prayers.
