$15/hr for taking care of a bunch of hoodlums is not too bad. Go on strike. These companies will just replace you as quickly as you leave. You will get nothing more. That's $31K/yr. Most school teachers don't make anything close to this. You are taking care of criminals. They are taking care of and teaching the future of the country for much less. You guard criminals and you don't teach them a thing.
Why is it that we are willing to spend so much more money on the criminals than the kids of america?
Criminal Cost/yr -$40K+

Grade School Kid/yr -$1.5K
What's wrong with this picture? Why are we spending so much more on the trash of america than on the future of america?
There is a much cheaper system. There is alternate to prison for people such as those with drug charges on first time conviction and no violence charges. The one I know of is less than $180 dollars period for a period up to two years. It is a very strict program and if the Judge is not satisfied with the progress report he receives throughout the period, he has the option of pulling the person and sending him to prison at any time. There is also other drug rehab programs that are also much cheaper. These would all save lots of tax payer money.

Why are they not being used? Well, one reason is how can a big official say look at me, see how I am hard on crime, I sent a person to prison for so many years. It does not sound near as good for a career to say I sent him to alternate to prison; not much advancement opportunities there. Do you want to save money and maybe turn some lives around, give a person a chance to get off drugs and become an upright citizen or do you want to send him to prison where he is marked for life, has a difficult time of ever getting a decent job again. Would you rather spend a fortune so someone can advance their career? Statistics show that 1/4 of these people that go to prison for the first time for non-violent will turn in to a violent prisoners at a later date. So you want more money for education, then do not let people advance in their careers this way. Look at organizations like Stop the Drug War, Join Together, and etc. If you want to save money start trying to change this around.

These people are going to be on the street again some day. Wouldn't you rather them have treatment instead of locking them away and having them out and back on drugs again? It is our money, but some are advancing their career instead of stopping crime.

I think we are all in violent agreement. This is completely unjustified spending.

Also, keep in mind that most prisons have been privately run for a long time. The govt builds them.

They contract the running of the prisons to private companies. Politicians make sure that their friends get the contracts. The friends later lace their pockets with cash.

Daily Horoscope for January 4

Leo

Even though you usually pride yourself on being the strong silent type, love has a way of unlocking your tongue. The words coming out of your mouth may be familiar, but your sense of timing makes all the difference right now. Keep in mind that you never know how a risky gesture will work out, although you can always hope for the best. When in doubt, take the more cautious path.
