Fairhaven residents spent Monday verifying the hundreds of signatures and determined the number exceeded the number needed to place the referendum or special town meeting.

“There were twice as many as they needed,” residents said.“I verified 600 and there may have been a few more, but they didn't need them.”

Windwise org started the drive because they said too much outside pressure was placed on the town planning commission and town boards in drawing up the wind turbine project.

“A lot of the residents felt intimidated and didn't attend special town meetings,“We need to bring it to a vote and give Fairhaven voters the chance to vote in private.

The wind turbine project followed more than a year of planning and public meetings held behind closed doors and "executive meetings."

Windwise org plans to add key elements of the current bylaws and amendments that require the setback from nonparticipating property to be four times the total height of a wind turbine and limits the sound level. The turbines may only operate during day light hours.

We want to show the negative and non beneficial results of having wind turbines. Why do they make people sick?

Windwise org will do our very best to support the expensive and well-crafted wind energy ordinance/bylaws that our town boards have unanimously fail to adopt.
