Nude people in Brattleboro town centre could prompt ban

Complaints about young people who spend time in downtown naked have prompted the Select Board to explore an anti-nudity ordinance.

I find it amusing. Where I live, it is hard to get teenagers to take a shower with their clothes off, whether it is p.e. classes or at the health club ... but in Vermont they seem to lack shyness.

so what's the big deal about nudity anyway? I still can't believe our government spent millions to investigate Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunction... the world happened to see part of a breast -- a life-giving part of a woman's body -- and this is a problem for some reason?

Personally it would not bother me to naked people. I would probally be a bit embarassed and uncomfortable but to each their own.

But I do have a problem with my two young children seeing naked peoples arses and private areas. I think they would freak out.

lol... i live in bratt. I think its funny even though i dont go downtown that much. Not many people have been caring that much about it even though i can walk to where they are.

It's amazing that people are so pase about this out there... sadly, here in Iowa, most people would absolutely freak out. I'm in favor of the human body, and more power to these teenagers. The times, oh they are a changin'... :-)

I find it sad that this is the focus of people's attention. Concern with nudity and breast feeding at a time when US citizens are killing innocent people in distant lands---how distorted! I hope Brattleboro continues to resist an anti-nudity law. There should be at least one place in the USA where American's don't look like the up tight people most of the world's people think we are.

I think it is absolutely ludicrous that there people in this world who are more worried about a couple of naked people walking around town, when we should be directing our attention to more impotent issues that are going on in the world for instance, war, starving children, and president bush. Hello! Who cares about naked people? Don't look.

I cannot say that I'd want to walk around naked through the center of a town. I've never thought about doing it. I suppose that if I saw others who were doing it, it might be an inspiration. But I cannot honestly say how I'd feel until I was there. Hopefully, I will have that opportunity soon.

Also, I do believe that there are far more pressing issues. The abominable war in Iraq (and those that voted for it) and the breach of most of our laws and the constitution by our government are the top issues. Also the devestation caused by natural disasters--Katrina, the bridge in Minnesota, and others. Poverty & racism are other top issues along with of course, health care. But on a day to day basis, most of us cannot have much effect on those issues and given that we are all human, we need to appreciate the goodnesses that we all have as well as to challenge what is wrong and one of those good things is our bodies.
