Porkey's is just one of many businesses that will go bankrupt or close because of light rail construction. Small business owners really have no power when faced with big money interests that will make obscene profits from the light rail expansion.
And when it is finished, we all will continue to have to subsidize public transportation that benefits a select few.

The negative posters usually eat at Mickey's Diner if they are lucky. They wouldn't know a good place if it slapped them in the face.
I agree with the spirit of your remarks, but don't agree with your reference to Mickey's Diner. The Lex is good upscale American food. Mickey's is good diner food. I think a better reference would be Red Lobster or Golden Corral.

Coming soon to the updated Lexington for your dining and entertainment pleasure: thumping house beats, synchronized lighting, and multiple giant plasma televisions delivering all of the devilishly devised dogmas, while the revamped menu offers a wildly deceptive selection of pre-processed excrement, including nachos, chicken strips, and burgers for the modern American muffin-topped morons.

The PORKY'S owners are third or fourth generation family members who love the business and have done a wonderful job honoring their family's tradition of serving lots of fun with the tasty retro food. The business has struggled financially recently, and with University Av torn up under light rail construction for the next three years the owners reluctantly decided to retire PORKY'S with dignity and sell the property to a church that intends to build senior housing on the site.
The family doesn't deserve ignorant and abusive criticism from anyone.

Great way to lose money which is a guarantee in that armpit of the world. Pure fantasy from some libs who think their DFL buddies will support their "unreality syndrome" or that they will get attention for taking a bad risk. The Union city inspectors will make martyrs of them all!!
Just another example of the last of the believers that will end up getting slaughtered.

Wonderful food, never a bad meal, relaxed atmosphere with some diners in very dressy style and others in jeans an open necked shirt.
I can't get a better meal in town, and will continue to patronize it as often as I can.
I don't need off the wall experiments by the chef or trendy small portions of something that is hot in NYC.
I'm anxious to try a few old dishes but see what they've added.
PS, I'll kiss THIS pig any time, lipstick or not.
nice try Mr. Owner. food portions are pffft and historically the prices suck. cross the street to the Uptowner and enjoy yourself

I dsagree they sold out just for the money. Porky's was closed for years and came back but certainly not in the same fashion it was when it had closed. Let's take a look at what really is closing Porky's and that is the light rail brain child of the Met Council, the St. Paul City Council, and the Ramsey County Board.
As to letting the hot rodders and car fans down, take at look at the opposition they received in Minneapolis when they opened over on Central Ave. You would have thought Central was Lake of the Isles for all the complaining about the perceived noise, traffic and riff raff the place allegedly brought in.

I agree the SPPD did not make University Ave. in the vicinity of Porky's very user friendly on those hot summer nights when the guys and gals were cruising and giving everyone a free, family oriented show of what things used to be like.

Light rail has killed businesses in St. Paul, and probably a half dozen people in Minneapolis. Stay tuned for more of the same in the future as there very well may be a light rail system coming to your neighborhood. While you're at it, you better take a trip to Hudson on the south and Osceola on the north if you want to cross the St. Croix River. The Sierra club would rather a bunch of humans get killed if the old Stillwater Bridge ever goes down, than disturb some Zebra Mussels in the St. Croix.

Yes, they should also add a playroom with plastic balls the kids can squirm around in, a jungle gym, and some slides. Plenty of windows at McDonald's.

It's the Lexington, not Jack in the Box or a place to get your collectible plastic toy.

I grew up around the corner and my family used to eat at the Lexington regularly. Don Ryan, God rest his sole, was truly an iconic host.

In recent decades however the mgt had let the place slip. Slip to the point that I haven't been in years. For my part, I am excited that some local folks are going to make a go of it.

It is a fantastic place with a very rich history. I think I will dust off my Lexington Card (third generation card holder!) and give the place another try!

Good luck!!

Was there in Feb to celebrate my Mom's Birthday and a succesful medical procedure. Food was sup-par at best, service was worse, and they cooked my Mother's(the guest of honor's)steak wrong!? To top it off,the womens restroom flooded and was out or service the whole night - seriously, no restroom available for 3 hours?! The staff offered no compensation for any of the above. What a waste of A LOT of money and what a rotten way to celebrate. Never going back.

"all new kitchen staff" I will not be dining there again which is a bummer because I have been a loyal customer for 47 of my 47 years. Taking away jobs from hard working and talented people. Bad move. Our very large family has celebrated countless special occasion there, countless casual meet-ups, countless, I'm hungry where can I get a good reliable meal... you get the picture, unlike the new owners I'm afraid. You know what they say, you get 'em by the ones and lose 'em by the hundreds. In this case they just lost about 150.
