Every company I have listed in previous posts went on strike because the company shoved the contract down their throats. Some companies had recorded record profits, It is the same story time after time. Workers went out to protest being forced to take concessions. Every one was declared an economic strike. In every case companies hired in replacement workers. Some of the worst cases company brought in permanent replacement workers. They thought the company would not be able to run without them. That they were irreplaceable. They all went on strike to fight the good fight. Most unions maintained almost complete solidarity. Thousands of employees striking, in the case of caterpillar 13,000 went on strike. Years later only 9000 got jobs back. I have yet to hear anyone on here state what they plan on doing different then any of these unions. To hear anyone say exactly what they think the company is going to concede if they go on strike. I hate being forced to take concessions too, but to go out on a suicide strike and watch someone else come in and gladly take your job is ridiculous. If you do not think there are thousands of people in the local area who would gladly take it, or hundreds of thousands that will gladly relocate to get your job you are delusional. Playing the greedy corporate card, environmental hazards, has already been tried. Public sentiment is not going to be with the union. People who are making a lot less with no medical, no pension, working two jobs, or have been looking for work for months or a year are going to look at a strike with contempt and view the union as the greedy one. Far too many in this union seem to think a strike is going to be a slam dunk. No matter what happens now union and community are going to be split. If it goes back for a vote and contract is adopted, all the ones who wanted to strike are going to contend we could have won and everyone sold out. If it comes to a strike and anyone loses their job(and some definitely will) they are going to blame the others for backing them into a corner and striking and those who see a strike as futile and cross the picket line to protect their jobs and families are going to be blamed for the strike failing and forever be branded. We are behind you Prez. Besides Broome and his croneys can make up as many lies as they want about what went on in that office. The Prez always has his lil buddy in his pocket and I am sure it was on. Probably even got Brooms' anxiety attack too. And no one showed any concern but the Prez, go figure.

Hombre do you think for one minute all those other unions that went on strike were not tired of the corporate greed. Go back and read about them. They struck for the same reason we want to.They took a stand for the right reasons. They had the exact same attitude you do. Let the company try to run without us. And they ALL failed. They failed with a hell of a lot more people going on strike, a hell of a lot more mills, and plants backing them. And a hell of a lot more of an anti company campaign then we have been doing. What makes you think our strike will be different. As I said before I have not heard any solid plan or any strategy that has not been tried. I have not read of one strike that has been successful. I did not see our guys slowing down machines to help La Tuque. Where was our support for them. If we did not even back them what makes you think anyone is going to back us? Or how about the Motts strike earlier this past year. Did we do anything to support them? And the most common reason why all those strikes failed was employees attitudes that they can not run the plant with replacements. Those strikes are all history, they are fact. Like it or not, believe it or not they happened. You can believe the company has done its research. The pattern has been established for over 30 years since Reagan fired over 11000 air traffic controllers and replaced them all. Just know what you are getting into when everyone goes on strike. If you expect me to risk everything I have worked for, you better dang well have a better game plan then I have heard.

Support our Prez...
Work to the rule. Let management make all the decisions. If they ask for your input just say im not sure. They want to run the place then let them direct us on what to do, after all that is what they get paid for and is their responsibility. Just don't let management make a decision that will blow something or someone up. We have a duty to protect ourselves and the town.

We have all been working long hours and feeling rather exhausted. If you feel fatigued then take a break. Be safe and do not hurry if there is a risk of getting hurt. If you are pressured by management use the safety hotline and contact OSHA. Document any harrassment and let your union rep know.

Remember your Wiengarten Rights, this is VERY IMPORTANT, when asked any question by management pull out your card. If you do not have one then get one from a union rep. Be respectful to your supervision, this is not their fight, they all know whats going on and most do not agree with it. We all know the ones that are under the desk.

Keep cool, this will aggravate the ones that think they have something to prove. If anyone gets out of line let it be management. And believe me some will and already have.

I guess the Guard at the landfill found out that the gunshots they heard were rabbit hunters and not someone shooting at them. I hope the company keeps one there around the clock, after all when a union brother had a heart attack there and died all alone on a dark rainy night the company was asked about having a guard stationed at the landfill so the driver would not be there alone. They stated that there was not a need for it due to cost and it would not have mattered. Well it's really sad that now they are so worried about us sabotaging the wells they have a guard on site. So here we go, what sense does this make.

WPM you left your office as " a member NOT in good standing" and the Local is still paying penalties for your so called work. We probably paid for that pool too. If you had the nerve to show up at meetings except to cry and bitch, you would know what our Local has done for other striking Unions. IF YOU'RE SCARED, SAY YOU'RE SCARED.

The reason the Union Board does not let us know their Game Plan is because some people can't keep their big mouths shut and will run to HR crying and spill their guts and say things that put their union at risk. Need I say more !!!! We need to stand behind the negotiating committee, they are the ones that have done the hard work and know whats going on.

Sadly, with all thats going on, the contract could be signed very easily if the company wasn't trying to break the union rather than bargain in good faith. Last told 14+ employees have opted for retirement on Monday rather than risk a strike and reduced health care benefits. The years of service these employees represent is irreplaceable. Since there is no hiring they can't be replaced. When will someone understand this?

Was it a coincidence that the company waited to 3 o'clock to escort our President out. The described incident with BROOM was before lunch. Did it take the company that long to come up with an offense to charge Prez with? Their token show of force. They sent to weiners out to do the job. Poor safetyman had to be there also. I think Broom and
salary supervisors in this incident be removed.

Guys/gals, we must readily foregive our SAFETY MEN they are in the worse place any one could be in. They cannot be expected to not follow orders. They do an outstanding job for us and we know their heart is not in the things that appear to be aimed against the union.

$59,000,000 wow sounds like a plan to me.....
One union brother told me he lost $40,000 in his 401

Past SSCC strikes and lock outs.
I have been through 2 strikes and 1 lockout as a union member in an SSCC mill. This is what you can expect:
The Local Press is against you.
The local citizens are against you.
The weaker union members after 2 to 3 weeks and several missed pay checks turn against you.
The salary employees that replace you will stumble for a few weeks but after they get it figured out they start running better. When this happens your negotiating leverage declines.
You wind up getting sold out for less money by the weaker union members and end up going back to work for less. My advice is to negotiate hard but just like in poker you need to know when to fold.
