Sure, let's DISCLOSE EVERYTHING to the Taliban, Al Qaeda and anyone else interested in controlling Afghanistan. They know more soldiers are coming. They know WHERE they are going to be. They know that the soldiers WON'T be there indefinitely (maybe a few years). So, sit tight, quietly herd your sheep and wait until the invaders leave. Dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb.

The conflict in Afghanistan is not solely a US problem. After 9/11 the US supported forces that overthrew the Taliban government for harboring Al Queda terrorists. Current US forces in Afghanistan are supplied to NATO under the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) sanctioned by the UN. The NATO ministers voted to take over the ISAF function. Like all NATO efforts the Europeans are the first to raise their hands, but when the shooting starts on the front lines, they are in the rear fortified areas. The US has supplied the majority of combat forces while the rest of the NATO countries have contributed only humanitarian police forces. The Dutch are pulling out their combat forces next year and the Canadians are pulling out in 2012.

The Germans with one of the largest military force in Europe had supplied only non-combat forces. The Germans are the ones who called an air strike on gas tankers stuck alone the riverbank that killed a lot of Afghan civilians who were siphoning gas because the Germans were afraid that the gas tankers were a suicide attack on their fortified position. They had not sent any recon forces to identify the threat. The only NATO forces worth a DAMM are the BRITS, the rest are from NATO countries that can "Talk the talk but can't walk the walk." The Europeans had been kicking around the ideal of an all European rapid defense force independent of NATO. They had sent an independent security force to Kosovo. They had their ASS kicked and NATO, with US forces, had to bailout their asses. If the rest of NATO doesn't commit to their promise to support the ISAF then NATO as an organization is useless.

The terrorists are using religion to incite a holy war against the rest of the world to further their objectives. When the USSR invaded Afghanistan, it was to stop the Islamic rebels from spreading the conflict in Afghanistan to their Islamic population. The US helped the Islamic rebels defeat the communist Afghan government and their communists ally the USSR. The US than left the area, allowing the Taliban to control the Afghan government. The US failed to see the dangers of religious terrorists and the spread of their radical ideas and we are now paying the price.

The conflict in Afghanistan will be long and costly, but the cost in lives and resources will be greater if we let this problem fester. The rest of the world knows the danger. The Russians are letting armed NATO forces over-fly their territory to enter Afghan airspace. The Chinese have been supplying money and training to the Afghan border police. Both India and Pakistan have a huge stake in this; the attacks in India by radical Islamic terrorists have been used to incite a holy war between the two nuclear powers. Even the Iranians who are Shia are weary of the growing Sunni terrorists in Afghanistan.

The reason there isn't a movement in Congress to stop sending more troops to Afghanistan is because of our NATO treaty commitment; it's an executive decision. The NATO ministers voted to take over responsibility of ISAF from the UN, yet the rest of the NATO countries haven't sent any combat forces in proportion to the size of their armed forces. Obama is going to commit a majority of ISAF combat forces, but the rest of NATO and the world must step up to the plate; this is a worldwide problem. If NATO and the UN can't be counted on, what good are they?
