How stupid can our elected officials be , do they not follow history , we will not win in Afghanistan no matter how many troops we send , they do not care about Democracy and have no timeline to follow , The Viet Cong were the same way , they figured if it took 100 years to get us out of VIETNAM they could wait and wait they did. Afghanistan is the same way , they kicked the Russians out and we will be given the same treatment . we have not won a war since ww2 and Iraq and Afghanistan will add to our record of losses , waste of human life and further erosion of our trust if it can get any lower of our trust of our President and elected officials , The ones that suffer are the maimed and dead soldiers that serve these corupt politicians , Oh thanks George Bush for getting involved in these futile conflicts in the first place .......

PBO just doesn't have the stuff to make a tough decision. Easier to just send some more of our children to their deaths to support a corrupt regime.

He has already broken his promise to get us out of iraq, and we can assume he will not get us out of afg as he has promised.

Now, here are all the democrats who were so articulate when criticizing bush about his pro-active wars? No point in asking the republicans for wisdom, as they couch the debate in schoolyard terms of standing up to a bully or running like a coward. Problem is, their simplistic thinking costs us lives and money solely for the appeal to ego.

Agreed, and its a total bi-partisan policy at this point. Remember, the defence contractors give money to all incumbent politicians. There are trillions of dollars to be made on these foreign occupations.

Churchill's eagerness to involve england in foreign wars took it from being one of the most powerful empires on earth prior to world war I, to impoverisment at the end of world war II--not to mention the loss of the youth of two generations of englishmen on the battlefields. Does his high-sounding prose completely trump the reality of his accomplishments as a member of british government.

AIG Uses Accounting Gimmick To Reduce Money It Owes Taxpayers By $25 Billion

http://www.businessinsider.com/aig-reduces-go...

American International Group says it has slashed the amount of money it owes the government by $25 billion after moving two subsidiaries into special holding units ahead of their planned spinoffs or sale. How could this be? Didn't a Sanford Bernstein analyst just discover that AIG had a new $11 billion hole in its balance sheet?

As it turns out AIG has reduced its debt to taxpayers without paying back a dime of the money it borrowed. Instead, it is just engaging in accounting chicannery to transfer the obligations to a pair of companies it is spinning off.

The government is receiving $25 billion in preferred shares in the two life insurance companies, American International Assurance Co. and American Life Insurance Co. AIG will continue to hold the common shares of AIA and Alico until it decides whether to sell the companies privately or IPO them. Then, at last, some of the taxpayer money may be repaid.

Here is the official press release from AIG.

Hopefully some of this will serve as evidence that bailouts don’t work and that they don’t net taxpayers some kind of a return on their involuntary “investment.”

(Keep in mind that the Feds brought in a new CEO, made promises to him, and has now refused to meet those promises.)

Bi-partisan Congress idiots,indeed.

Sending troops to Afghanistan was his plan the whole time. DFL'ers heard what they wanted when he told them he'd pull troops out of Iraq, but they didn't listen to the "fine print" that many of those would be going to Afghanistan.

President Obama is doing the right thing. I didn't vote for him and I disagree strongly with his domestic policy, but tonight I get to cheer him on. Thank you for your courageous decision, Mr. President.

that was a world war, a dffernt time, if were so woried about becoming slaves, lets bring back the draft, and see how unpopular this so called war becomes, being a vet myself, and wounded twice, in vietnam, fighting an enemy not unlike were dealing with now, they wear no uniform, you could walk by them one day and they smile, the next they cut you down, with the same smile.

"Obama lied, people died"
Give me a break. We heard this same BS refrain about Bush. It's getting old. Come up with a new bumper sticke slogan, please. Obama campaigned partly on finishing the job in Afghanistan. I don't like his domestic policy, but he didn't lie about this.

That ideal is now, at this time, totally irrelevent. This is Obama's war. Obama is sending in more troops. Obama stated on the campaign trail Afghanistan needed to continue. Obama is a war mongerer! Is not the left calling Obama a war mongerer?!?! Is the left not calling Obama a sabre rattler?!?!? Same situation. Different guy. Typical lying crud politician. Obama and his media created aura is forever gone and tarnished beyond hope. Poser. Inept. Narcissist. A dismally failed equal opportunity elected president.

Betty McCollum today called for a war tax of 1% on all citizens making less than $125,000.

Here's an idea, Betty. How about making veterans exempt, since we already "gave at the office?"
