sorry but you are very wrong. Malaria took the lives of many of the soldiers, they are in a small grave yard just down from the fort. The fort was built so well and in such a strategic site that the Southern forces never even attempted to attack it. that is a victory with out firing a shot. Pity to many victories are won with blood shed. However, i totally understand what you mean about a reenactment there, there are many battle sites in this state that would make much more sense.

Well carp, Im a southerner as well, I am just as proud of it as you are. I was simply trying to tell you that brave men died there. There were brave men who died on both sides of that stupid war, just as they still do today. Though no battle was ever fought there these men still lost there lives and never left that hill side. You say "Damn Yankees, look at the mess in Washington",,,,, I say damn politicians because there are just as many Southerner's there. I don't think our forefathers intended for this country to be governed by lawyers. And "Just so u know" I am proud to be a "Redneck" as well." What is wrong with being a redneck my friend? Every freaking time someone wants to imply that another is stupid or uneducated they call them a redneck. Call me a redneck, country boy, or even a Southerner, I really don't care because its a compliment to me. So , since you wish to put people into categories what are you?

I to was a millwright for a while, I have worked construction most of my life and even a long stint in the oil fields. So I guess you could call me a redneck. What i have a problem with, is that every time some body hears an accent they automatically assume that he or she is just another dumb hick. I had an academic scholarship to college but had to leave to start raising a family. I made a mistake but I refused to make another by being selfish. I raised my family as best as I could and during the hard years I read everything I could get my hands on. I guess you could call me a self educated man. I love history and have visited fort Duffield a couple of times. Have you seen the little cemetery off to the side? The last time I went there wasn't a sound, it was deathly quiet and then Fort Knox began firing artillery. It was a chilling thought to think that these men laying here were still hearing the sounds of cannon in the distance. As if the war never ended for them. I know it sounds crazy, hence the name lol, yet to me at that moment it sent chills up my spine. As I have said in a previous post, I understand what you meant about a reenactment at the fort would be silly considering no battle has ever been fought there. To me though, I find even the lose of these lives to malaria as tragic as if they had died in a bloody battle. Sad.

Daily Horoscope for December 31

Aries

Someone wants to go their own way today and they won't care whose feathers they ruffle in the process. It's a lunar eclipse at the Full Moon in Cancer, so let them get on with it. The last thing you should do now is to hang on to their coat-tails or do anything else that will make them feel restricted. Make it plain that you've got your own fish to fry, thank you very much. And try not to let it stop you enjoying yourself. Have a great night!
