Occasionally(and I use that term loosely) GD makes a reasonable point. More often than not he talks in a circle and qualifies everything with "it's his opinion". He has a following of minions who think he speaks nothing but the truth. Most of them are mindless and incapable of independent thought. Just read his posts and you'll see what I talking about. Also it isn't always the same person...GD has impersonators.

For once I agree with grave digger on this one. My husband will proudly announce he is a Redneck but he is not a hilbilly. However we do not have the trashed yard or the fridge full of beer.

Well, politically, they are one of the same in that they comprise the base of the Republican Party: nothing but a bunch of white trash welfare-collecting government-hating Confederate flag-waving pickup truck-driving methed-out Bible-thumping inbred racist rednecks/hillbillies.

But here is some information behind the two terms. Interesting discussion, by the way.

Redneck is a derogatory slang term to refer to poor white Southern farmers in the United States. It is similar in meaning to "cracker" (especially in Georgia and Florida), "hillbilly" (especially in Appalachia) and "white trash" (especially among African Americans). The most common American usage, referring to the poor rural white Southerner, is probably derived from individuals having a red neck caused by working outdoors in the hot sun. A citation from 1893 provides a definition as "poorer inhabitants of the rural districts...men who work in the field, as a matter of course, generally have their skin burned red by the sun, and especially is this true of the back of their necks." By 1900, "rednecks" was in common use to designate the political coalitions of the poor white farmers in the South.

Hillbilly is a term referring to people who dwell in rural, mountainous areas of the United States, primarily Appalachia and the Ozarks. Due to its strongly stereotypical connotations, the term is frequently considered derogatory, and so is usually offensive to those Americans of Ozark and Appalachian heritage. However, the term is also used in celebration of their culture by mountain people themselves. Such co-opting and neutralizing use is almost exclusively reserved for the mountain people themselves.

The origins of the term "hillbilly" are obscure. According to Anthony Harkins in Hillbilly: A Cultural History of an American Icon, the term first appeared in print in a 1900 New York Journal article, with the definition: "a Hill-Billie is a free and untrammeled white citizen of Alabama, who lives in the hills, has no means to speak of, dresses as he can, talks as he pleases, drinks whiskey when he gets it, and fires off his revolver as the fancy takes him."

The Appalachian region was largely settled in the 1700s by the Scotch-Irish, the majority of whom originated in the lowlands of Scotland. Harkins believes the most credible theory of the term's origin is that it derives from the linkage of two older Scottish expressions, "hill-folk" and "billie" which was a synonym for "fellow", similar to "guy" or "bloke."

The "classic" hillbilly stereotype - the poor, ignorant, feuding family with a huge brood of children tending the family moonshine still - reached its current characterization during the years of the Great Depression, when many mountaineers left their homes to find work in other areas of the country. It was during these years that comic strips such as Lil' Abner and films such as Ma and Pa Kettle made the "hillbilly" a common American stereotype.

The real grave digger is funny and he doesnt take himself too seriously. Getting gullible blowhards riled is just his idea of a good joke. Its so funny when suckers take the bait and try to engage him in debate or show their true colors with threats or insults! But a lot of the time, behind tongue and cheek is penentrating and accurate social commentary

I'm not going to lie. I usually don't read grave diggers posts. Really. I just see his name and skip it. I don't have the patience to go through a huge post going from one random topic to the next, ending in haa,,, haaaa,, haaaaaa, and then finding out it has nothing to do with the thread what-so-ever. I usually only read his posts when someone has a strong reply to something he said. Other than that, its pretty much habit and impulse to skip his posts.
