As you may have heard, the Mayan calender ends on 12-21-2012. Supposedly the planets will be aligned in a way that they haven't been for thousands of years.
I really have no idea what will happen, but after watching the movie "The Road", it makes me wonder.

What are your thoughts on what we might expect to happen?

I think that "The Road" depicted a nuclear fallout kind of apocalypse.

But, in any case....it's already been said. No one's sure what will happen. It's true that there will be an incredibly rare cosmic alignment. This could do nothing, or it could destabilize the magnetic fields around the earth, which...needless to say...would be cataclysmic.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see...

I really would not worry to much on what might or might not happen. Mayan scientist say the world will not end, just that the Mayan calender will end and start over. Some scientist believe the Mayan calender and time line have been miscalculated.
There has always been something going to end the world every decade or some strange thing will happen. In the 80's scientist said all people would be bald by the year 2000. We had Y2K I also remember when the planets were supposed to line up and throw us off our axis, yet they were wrong on that also.
I agree with Desperado we will just have to wait and see.

If the Mayan calendar ended that day ONLY b/c they ran out of 3's, why wouldn't it be 12-22-2012, instead of the 21st of December???

In my thinking "The Road" depicted some sort of solar flare, but I really don't know for sure...maybe it was a nuclear fallout.
I do know that I wouldn't even want to survive if I had to go through what that father & son did.

Yeah, that would definitely suck out loud.

Anyway, the Mayans divided up their calendar into different Eras. Many people believe it's not the end of the world, but the dawning of a new Era.
But still...what does that mean? Who knows..

There is all kinds of information about this on the interent, just do your research. There are numberous pages that say The world is going to end or That nothing at all is going to happen, you just have to use your better judgement and believe what you think. Yes, the Mayan Calander ends on 12-21-12 BUT a new one starts the next day. Some Scientist's have proposed that a astronomical alignment or numerological formulae are
related to this date. Since there is a new Calander that begins on 12-22-12, it is thought to be a "New Age" and that Earth may have positive physical change or a spiritual transformation. Another Scientist's theory is that Earth may have a collision with a passing planet, black hole or
a solar maximum. There could be a alignment with the Milky Way and that "might" cause a black hole. Another theory is that there might be a pole shift, this would cause world wide change. All I know is that everyone has a different opinion on what they think will happen. There might be evidence that something horrible is going to happen but the government is hiding it because it will cause a pandemic, or maybe not. A lot of what
people is thinking is because of the "religion" they follow. There is always going to be talk of the world ending, or an armageddon happening. Just do your research, look different things up, you will be suprised by what you will learn.

I don't think the world is just going to blow up...not all at once anyway. I have read about the possibilities of an EMP taking out everything electrical. That would cause a lot of chaos. I don't think we're going to all of a sudden become all spiritual and one with everything, no matter how nice that sounds. I do think that most of the "end of the world" movies do have things in them that are quite possible. For example the movie The Day After Tomorrow is a possibility. According to the history of science we are due for another Ice Age. It would definitely be an option for the earth to clean up the mess we have made of it.
We are going to have an alignment that hasn't happened in a long time but we don't really know to what extent the effects will be. The last one was 26,000 years ago. From what the scientists said, changes began in 2008 and will continue until 2016. We already have numerous things happening such as an increase in earth quakes, volcanic eruptions and weather patterns. If people haven't noticed the changes they really need to go outside once in while.
I think whatever happens...happens. If we all end up dead then we really won't care anyway. I do think that people should really take into consideration what they might have to do to survive if we don't die. I think there's going to be a lot of people that won't have a clue what to do when they turn on the faucet and water doesn't come out.
