The whole road project is to make the big box stores happy and bring them to WP. Traffic flow has to be controlled and it would be nice to have various ways of getting around that area without having to go by the Wal Mart area stop lights. I like the idea BUT I also don't live on Monks Street. If I did my opinion may be different.

The powers that be want it to be and so it happens. The dozen or so families that truly run the city could give a rat's hind end what Frank Martin or anyone else thinks. Just think back over the years has anything ever happened that did not benefit them?

I agree. Mr. Smith runs the show in this town. His daddy left him billions of dollars and that kind of money buys influence in little bitty ole West Plains town.

Of course it will go thru. The money people will see to it. You know these people get praised for all they've done for West Plains but keep in mind they did it to make money. They didn't do it out of the kindness of their hearts. The people that are pushin for exposure to the downtown area want it to happen too. They think that will give them more traffic down there. They all have one objective. Make more money and gain more control. The folks living on Monks Street just as well face the fact that there will be a busy thru street running right in front of their houses and they will not be allowed to park on the street anymore. The street will get widened at some point and their property will shrink and their lives will be disrupted. That's what the Ramseurs and the Aids and the Smiths want so the puppets that comprise the city administration and planning commission will lie to the people and do whatever it takes to get it done. If they want a tax to be paid by the dumb ole cattle plodding along buyin the things they need to survive then there will be a tax to make their property beautiful and worth more. And so it goes.

Do you think Wal*Mart, Home Depot, or any other business is in it out of the kindness of their hearts to provide people a place to shop? Nope, they're in it for the money.

Do you show up to work out of the kindness of your heart? Heck no, you expect a paycheck.

Do you enjoy the perks from the expansion of US 63 years ago that expanded the 2 lane highway into a divided 4 lane? Remember how long it used to take to get from Pomona (or Willow Springs) to the south side of WP? I do... it took forever. They forced that land owner to sell a substantial amount of land he wasn't interested in selling.

Do you also enjoy the 10 mph bump in the speed limit on St Louis Street after they made improvements and everyone has to park off street?

I could go on and on but I think you get my point.

Yes there have been many improvements over the years. Some landowners have objected to selling their land. Many of them have jumped at the chance to sell because they bought it hoping to sell at some point and make a profit. Nothing wrong with that. I think the main issue is the facade that the city put on instead of being up front with the residents. Plus, the Smiths and Ramseurs are developers of land. Sure the things they develope help a lot of people and provide an outlet for goods and services providers but the main reason for the development is to make money. If they can gain some leverage with the city at the same time then that makes the job easier. The city should not lie to or mislead the residents. They don't have the means to defend themselves. They have invested all they have in their little piece of life and don't want to lose it to expansion.

The city council and mayor are elected by the residents of the city to represent the interests of the people and the best interests of the city. The reality is they serve the interests of the dozen or so families that "matter". What matters to those that "matter" is their money, and not the interests of the citizens or even the long term well being of the city of West Plains. Until we all realize this and demand better we will have to do as we always have done, cower in the corner and say yes sir.

there is no vote on this,,,this street is a city street,,,maintained by all our city tax payers, tax money,,,these people on monk street are stupid to want it closed off,,,cuz if the grave digger lived on this street would have a garage sale everyday with all this new traffic and make millions,,,then sell out and move behind the golf coarse,,,then buy 100 barking dogs and a thousand pink swan lawn ornaments,,,ha haa haaa,,,its a city public street,,,open it up,,,
