Boycott Black Friday
Sick of it

Is it any real surprise what this has evolved into? Now it's not even on Friday, but on Thursday night. What's next? Starting on Thursday morning? Probably. I think I even heard many of the retailers were starting November 1st.
Erasing peoples family time isn't important to these scrooge employers who are tucked away in their mansions during the holiday and have everyone underneath them scared to death so they will behave like slaves so they won't risk losing their jobs.
I urge all of us to avoid this mess. If you make it a point to be first in line, chances are you wont even make it to your car without be accosted in the parking lot on your way out with all the goodies you waited so long to get.
Another aspect that really gets under my skin, and I've seen it happen before, the ruthless people that push and shove to be first in line, are also the ones who have probably committed some sort of identity theft or other unscrupulous means to get the money used to buy the hot ticket items.

I totally agree! I spent ALOT of years in retail, and the employers do not care if employees get family time or not. We had to be in the store at 4:30 a.m. on Thanksgiving & Black Friday. Worked 12 hours both days. After 6 years, I asked to be off for 1 Thanksgiving Day ..... I was told NO!
I quit soon after .....

I used to work at Wal-Mart. I had to deal with a lot of bull shit from that place.....and than I quit. Yes,I think they should repeal black friday because I dont even want to buy shit on that day because every one is sold out anyway so why bother?Yeah, things might be alot cheaper but the cost of that is being the first one there to place hand on it. I'd rather wait and pay full price. Its no difference to me.

Quit being a tittie-baby... Not one person is forced to work there, and can quit anytime they choose. This is retail, so get over it. Black Friday boycott is just a ploy by the labor unions, to hurt one of the companies that doesn't need their thugs representing the workers. Not a single person that applied @ Walmart should expect to be off on the secular holidays. Walmart does a great service for our area, by providing low priced goods, that are of average quality, for many customers who cannot afford top prices or do not require the highest workmanship. I do not like all the products they sell that are made in China, but that is a choice that I can decide to purchase or not.

I never worked at Walmart, and would never apply there! I only shop there for items that I cant get anywhere else locally. I did quit retail, and am much happier for it, thx. The great svice that you speak of makes me laff. Your ignorance speaks for itself. Have a nice day!

I am sure with your career choice, retail customers are "much happier for it" too. You do appear much happier in the Equine business. But with the right tools and attitude, the job can be done efficiently. An added bonus to daily manure shoveling is better biceps. Best of all, those “dangly, jiggly thingys” in the back of your upper arm will actually firm up.

Did retail for about 2 years. It was one of the most mind numbing and frustrating things I've ever had to do. I'm much happier where I am now.
People who treat retail employees like shit should spend a year or so in their shoes. I guarantee that you will have a whole new respect for what they put up with.

I work in retail, but not for Walmart. This is my first retail job and in less than a year I was promoted into a lower level management position. The reason is because I take care of my customers. I take care of the bad ones the same way I do the good ones because like it or not they pay me. I work for a great company though. Anyway, my point is this; retail isn't for everyone, and if you work in it you need to make the best of it. Sorry, I got off topic. Last year was my first time working a Black Friday and I have never shopped on one. Sure, it was hectic, but oddly I enjoyed it. As for boycotting a sales day, that is ludicrous. Just stay home. Why ruin a day for someone else just because you don't enjoy it?:/

Good luck in your new found retail career, and I hope you have the patience for it! Only time will tell. You have made some great points! It is not for everyone, but thank goodness, it suits some!
